Could This Be Peiper At The Battle Of The Bulge?

Looks like they had lots of fun, but behind this is the grim reality that not long after or before the picture was taken 5 of the regiment were executed by their comrades officially for petty theft, but in fact more as an example it seems to restore an iron discipline ...

Hello Taesung, Here is the photo that was descibed earlier in the thread, about the officer that appears to be wearing the long leather coat. I think this is a still from the captured war footage from Stoumont. The figure to the left, Peiper??? The center figure appears to be Diefenthal.

I believe, although I stand to be corrected that Peiper in later life translated 'Austerlitz' by Christopher Duffy and many other military titles. His murder too was a mystery.

Yes, quite a few indeed; fe. some titles by Alexander McKee amongst others. Many military titles in German by publisher Motorbuch Verlag from Stuttgart which have the mentioning "übersetzung aus dem Englischen von Rainer Buschmann" are in fact translated by Peiper.
His murder was a mystery indeed; it seems he had in fact just started to write a book about what happened in Malmédy and what followed ...

Btw re. Peiper's own words that he wore an "Italian flying overall over the normal panzer uniform" in the Ardennes : a 1/35 resin figure by Japanese manufacturor

Yosci depicting him at Kharkov in a grey overall comes to mind.

Hello Everyone, I would like to thank all of you who have posted and viewed my thread on Peiper in the Bulge. I hope that you have found the topic interesting, and the information useful, in modeling and painting the uniform of what Peiper, may have worn during the battle. As I have posted earlier in this thread, it was never my intention to hurt, or offend anyone in the subject matter, and if it has, you have my humblest apologise. I would also like to thank the members who contributed there knowledge, with there photos and constructive input. I have a few photo tidbits, and a few obsevations: Peiper has never been photographed wearing the black M43 panzer cap.

After the Battle of the Bulge, Peiper was never photographed wearing the long leather coat that it seemed was one of his favorites. Perhaps it was left behind in La Gleize during the Kampfgruppe's withdrawl?

Peiper, was photographed after the BoB, in at least battlefield conditions, wearing the U-Boat leathers that most figures, and busts depict him in.

If I am not mistaken, an "Italian flying overall" would probably be brown in color, not gray. Just my two cents.....

Thanks Mike. Well this text below is what I found on another forum; so far I've not seen a picture of an Italian flying overall... :

According to Jen Westemeier's book Joachim Peiper, A Biography of Himmler's SS Commander, Peiper testified at Skorzeny's Trial " I wore a flying combination suit from the Italian Air Corps on top of my German armoured uniform"
Westemeier sources this quote to: NA RG546 War Crimes Cases Trials, Case 6-100, Box 79.

In confirmation of Peiper's quote above,Captian Bruce Crissinger ( a POW who spoke to Peiper like Major McCown) stated the following "Peiper was wearing a type of coverall and no helmet". Crissinger's 24 Hours, a Prisoner of the Waffen SS can be found on the web.
