Yikes

Let me offer you this advice:

Get a new disk drive and consider that one toast.

Install your OS on the new disk and then 'slave' in your 'dead' and get the contents out with a LiveCD. - I'll get you more details in a separate post, in the support forum :)

Here you go:

Download Ubuntu (Linux Live CD) **get the 32bit version**
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

and burn it to a CD.

Get a second hard drive or a thumbdrive you can get a 4GB for around $10 or use blank SD card/camera (you can use usb/camera as a makeshift storage drive in a pinch)

Attach your storage device to your pc and boot up the CD you created.

The Ubuntu LiveCD runs just from your CD Rom drive allowing you to manage your pc and disks without making permament ch
anges.

Once booted up into the LiveCD, move you data you want to save from the infected disk to the storage disk. And then fro
m within the LiveCD you can also scan it for viruses more here if you choose to do so: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/14434/scan-a-windows-pc-for-viruses-from-a-ubuntu-live-cd/ OR when your new OS is up scan the storage device.

Once the data is copied and scanned (recommended) disconnect your storage device.

Nuke the infected drive or replace with new drive.

Install new OS

Hope that helps!

These are very handy too dealing with hardrives : http://www.amazon.com/USB-SATA-5-25-Cable-Adapter/dp/B000YJBL78 that is a USB drive adapter (allows you to connect a harddrive to your USB port externally)

Thanks Gordy!! I'm not much of a computer guy, so I sent the computer to Best Buy to fix it up. According to them it will be completely cleaned up beforeI get it back. Is there any way to check if the drive is OK once I get it back? They are loading all the programs and OS back onto it as they had to clear everything up.
