Hi guys,

Does anyone know if the British Line infantry officers peaked undress/forage cap, as worn in the Crimean campaign, has a button or any lacework on the crown?

Contemporary photos seem to say no, but I cant find any written evidence!!

Thanks in anticipation,

Steve(y)

Cheers Roger, thanks for that, very useful.
The actual one Im trying to get is a similar shape to that, but with the black silk cap band. There are many pics of it from the front, but none showing the crown! very frustrating!
cheers,

I think most of them did : I investigated the subject a couple of years back. There was a button , surrounded by eight little loops of tracing braid, forming a flower shape . Sometimes black silk , sometimes gold braid , perhaps depending on rank..

Cheers Roger, that's the one! looks like a fisherman's cap! Defo nowt on top of that!
Tony - thanks for the info - I have found examples of both, some with some without! Maybe some were privately made, as was the custom in those days!
I think Ill go with one with nowt on top!
many, many thanks for the input, guys!
