Mike Myers, the actor. I think I once read somewhere that Douglas Fairbanks & Charlton Heston were also collectors.

Geoff

That's why they 'folded' under British volley fire
Ha ha !

George r martin great little site, good collection on the toy and old classic side.

Mike Myers that's intriguing,
chuck heston I am not shocked even to the
"fingers of my withered dying hand"

I think Mike Myers might even have been a member of the BMSS at one time & there is a reference to him being a D&D player over on his Wikipedia bio.
I think the reference to Charlton Heston might have been in the book Achtung Schweinehund written by Harry Pearson. (If you were into wargaming in the 70's or 80's this is an excellent & very funny read)

Geoff

I have to be honest Geoff I'm not even keen on toy soldiers, but it's the origin of our hobby.
And wargaming just leaves me cold.
I always got the impression it quickly becomes as much about who knows the rules best like families arguing over scrabble !
It's all about the miniatures for me, nowt else.
But a great link for others I'm certain.
Thanks

Further to the reference to the late Robin Williams there was a report of him shopping in a GW store somewhere in the US. As is the usual in GW he was immediately approached by the usual over enthusiastic staffer to whom Williams burst into an improvised & ad lib alien language. Bet that stopped 'em asking what army he gamed with.
Genius.

Geoff

I was in one of their stores a while ago just browsing the individual minis and shocked at their pricing.
A kid of 18 asked me if he could help and I replied not really.
He was very politely persistant in wanting to help me find something.
I then explained what I made and showed him a couple of work in progress piccies off my phone.
He was genuinely flabbergasted that anything other than the wobbly wizard store
existed and asked is this a new thing then.
I said son I've got sculpting tools and paintbrushes older than you.
He enjoyed the moment and promised to look in on planet, wahey

In fairness always found my local GW guys very decent lads quite willing to share paint tips and very interested in my stuff. Usually take my latest stuff in there for the none historical eye over. Think the pushy comes from HQ figure prices are shocking alright
Steve

Yes Steve, they are doing just as instructed and trained.
They have a very high turnover of staff too.
But they are enthusiastic and all the staff are gamers.
I personaly feel they exploit the young'uns by their pricing; and the magazine is almost
a propoganda tool implying the only way to do anything is the Wobbly Wizard's Den way, using only their products.
I showed one store a sylmasta pack of duro to compare it with theirs and it scared them rigid as to how much they paid.
I used to buy their paints now and then but can't justify the price anymore.
Alan Ball introduced me years ago to a range called Miniature paints that come in screw-top jars.
I have a few that are 20 years old and still are beautiful to use.they are from Gamecraft of Liverpool.
Keep an eye out for them they stand on a white wire rack

This is they !

Chocolate brown and Turquoise
Luvvly jubbly.
I should add although GW has it's detractors (me included),
They do bring a new generation into painting, that's no bad thing.
Are you at Southwell on Sunday bud?
Paul

Edward Woodward was a keen collector. Ironically his grandson was in the RM, probably still is, we meet Edward years ago at a medal ceremony at RM Chivenor.
Here is another Peter Cushing video.
