diorama in progress

i realize this is a figure frorum, but since i have a bunch of figures going into this i figured it wouldnt hurt to get some contructive criticism on it

this is the mini art polish city building. the street and sidewalk is scratched and the wall is casted copies of a custom dioramics section i had laying around. sorry for the pics in the bathroom and the lack of detail. the flash also made the brick mortar turn out realy really white where as in real life its actualy much more gray, but you get the idea. my camera is very bad and the bathroom is the only room that has decent overhead lighting. i probably would never use mini art buildings again, too much work with the plastic. ill stick to balsa and plaster. i have about 12 figures going into this soviet and german troops. im not sure why the base looks so warped and curved in the pics, its probably because i used the freaking sink to put the base on

Looks good so far. How is the building as a kit? They look great from the pics I've seen.

your sink is probably the most original easel ever seen :lol:
Nice work, maybe you could find interesting adding some propaganda poster on the wall.

I agree with Luca - a truly unique easel - but it worked! :lol:

If the back of the building is totally blown out like that, would the window casements or doors still be hanging? Maybe some would, but some probably would have splintered and been broken out of their mountings. I would consider replacing some of them with splintered balsa or birch pieces and adding something to simulate broken glass. The condition of the brick and mortar is believable and so is what I assume is a wrought iron fixture around the balcony. I would remove the doors, break them in pieces and show them half-hanging and half in the street. Some street debris, dirt, rubble, maybe a partial bomb crater and so forth would also improve the look.

thanks for the advice, and your right about the window frames. ill probably leave the front ones in, but the ones on the side ill partially take out and put in the rubble. i have more work to be done as well.

the kit was from mini art, and it was a total pain to put together, it was vaccum formed plastic and ill probably never use it again.

The street looks flat. Streets are humped to handle water runoff in the gutter.

i thought about that when carving the streets form the plaster, but becasue a few of the figures im using are laying down, it would have looked like they are floating.
