I have finally started painting the diorama. Inevitably the first figure is the Drum Major. I know I promised an sbs and since these are pics of the finished piece I posted a little sbs for the painting of the face for the 2nd figure , which is the drummer. You find this in another post. Please feel free to comment

Guy , Roc thanks. Yes I do agree that the whites came out rather good, especially the coat.

I agree, the whites are really nice, but the hat with those feathers is great, you don't often see musicians modelled, which is a shame as they have some very showy uniforms..

great stuff Stephen.

Roy.

Steven,
Great looking figger!
How did you pull off the purple. Tremendously hard color to get right and you nailed it! It compliments the white tones very nicely. Well done!

All the best

Patrick

Guys , thanks for your kind words.

Roy , it's true that you don't see that many musicians modelled. In fact I have been sculpting a series of musicians from the napoleonic period both for myself and as commisions.Their flamboyant uniforms are irresistable to me.

Patrick , I don't want to bluff or anything but the easiest color on this figure was the purple. In fact I used a colour straight from the tin for it. Here's the mix:
Base : AC23
H/L : base + AV815
H/H/L : H/L + AV928
L/L : base + A950
L/L/L : L/L + AV950

As for he whites I believe that I posted some mixes a while back but if anyone needs any mixes for this color( or any other for that matter ) just ask

Thanks guys. Yes the pictures were restored with the help of the ever present Guy

Hi Stephen.
Those whites are superb!!
I'd like to know wich colours have you used on it.
You've done a good job too on a colour as difficult as purple is.
Best regards
jaume

hi Jaume.I'm glad you like it and a compliment from you says it all !! here's the mix I used for the white coat.

Base : A39 + A4 + A6 + dab A26
H/L : base + A39 + A6
L/L : Base + A26 + A4

Please note that variations of this mix will prodce different tones.Hope it helps
