A reminder that Ebay listings can be useful reference sources if listings are by knowledgable sellers who provide detailed illustrations. For example, see all the detailed pictures of a French officer's chapeau at this link:

I'm building up a good referenc library of French first empire headdress, belts, swords, cuirasses etc. but downloading and saving such photos. I have also saved some pretty good uniform illustrations from people selling period paintings and prints.

I agree that Ebay is a good place for reference, although one has to be careful to get the real things to copy. I Used EBay for reference when I was painging the Andrea Vietnam Bust, and I found several good pictures of the acctual stuff. Something that I will continue to do in the future.

Using images off eBay is a great sources for reference material. I wanted to see the rear view of a kilt to see how the tartan looked pleated and sure enough I found a kilt in the tartan I was looking for being sold on eBay along with front and rear views of the kilt. Also, being a collector of vintage militaria, I have purchased items off eBay with reasonable satisfaction.
