This is my first bust and I just started blendng the face. The uniform and cap is undercoated

I am not sure about the quality / colors etc of the face and think it looks "overdone".

Should I start over . . .?

So far, it looks good. . .

Hi Willem:

I think you have the flesh tone rather well done. However, for my personal
taste, I would like to see more contrasts or darker shades, in the shadow
areas, such as in the eye socket under the eyebrow, under the nose, and
under the chin. But the flesh tones do look natural. Eager to see the completed
bust when you paint in all the leather and medals, et cetera.

Thanks for posting this bust, mate,

Willem,
You want some comments. Here are a couple, and they are personally.
The skincolor is very good. I would go for more shading like Rick mentioned. I should repaint the eyebrows. They looking like a mascara eyebrow as a girl. The hairs dont stand up or going straight down. Most at the time the hairs are lined into the direction of the temporal bone. Quit the black color but go for a dark brown. It's more easy to higlight and shade that then black. And not all soldiers have grey eyebrows.
Then i should fade out the shadingcolor on the cheeks a litte more. It looks just one line.
Then the hard part: the eyes. The color looks to white, so a wash with skincolor will bring that down. Then the underpart of the iris shading and the upperpart a little highlight. Then painting in the black pupil.
Catchlight: well they are not my favorit.

Hope i helped you further in the paintingproces and not that you are trowing away your brushes.
Keep painting.

Marc

Nice star Willem, I have this bust in grey army at present and want to plan my paint carefully with the colours, face is good but try and tone down the line running from chin to just below the left eye a little using say a sunny flesh. The uniform colours are based here so I would darken my olive drab with a little brown, but not too dark as it can produce ugly lines.look forward to your progress.RobH. :D

Carl - thank you

Rick - thank you. My problem is that in RL the face overall looks already very dark.

Marc - thank you for all the advice. I am working from black and white photographs where Eddie seems to have a very light complexion, dark eyes and black hair. In this magnification the eyebrows do look ridiculous hehe. Your comments on the eyes I can only aspire to. PS - not planning on throwing my brushes away . . . but definitely a lot of sub standard busts & figures.

Rob - Will probably bring it to the next meeting

Nice start!!!

I did painted that bust. It comes from a serie of Dragon 1/48 WWi aircraft. I think 4 of them. Nicely scultped, all in resin.

I must say that you did a good job to start. I painted mine in oils but my results are not really nice.

The hard part was to find the color of the eyes and I didn't knew what was the real color of the tunic. So I imagine it was some kind of brown, raw sienna with a bit of yellow in it.

As for the help, I think you have all the help you need now to keep going.

Don't stop and finished it!!
