I've just finished this lovely bust sculpted by Matt Grech for his El Greco range. It depicts a hoplite from Laconia, the area of ancient Greece which had Sparta as it's capital, so this is basically a Spartan warrior, correctly wearing a red cloak and Laconian helmet.

The part which took the longest was blending the tones on the exposed chest, especially that great slab of pectoral muscle.

Unfortunately, the camera has caused the reds to bloom somewhat so that a lot of the definition on the crest and cloak won't reproduce, but hopefully you get the idea (I've tried al sorts of editing and filters, but to no avail).

Thanks for looking in and taking the time to comment chaps.

I do seem to be churning them out, but I'm really enjoying this lark at the moment. The problem is, as Adrian has guessed, that I have no grey army waiting in line, and with funds getting short, I'm going to have to resort to recycling more of my old stuff. Taking a break from it is not an option, as it's the only thing that keeps me sane in this mad world.

Morning Peter

Wow!

I have to say this is quite biblical and the photo seems to have been deliberately staged not just an accident!

It looks so renaissance and could be Charlton Heston in a 50's Hollywood epic poster.

How do you top this one?

Get the Dettol out. LOL

Time to do some scrubbing and re work some of the back of the cabinet lurkers

Have a good day with the paints, which you certainly are at the moment

Have a good weekend too

Regards

Steve H

Ken - Thank you.

Steve - Yes, see what you mean. I used to love those old biblical epics as a kid. I have a few busts that have been in the Dettol to work on, but Katherine also relented and let me spend some money on a a couple of new things last night - I have another Matt Grech hoplite on order amongst them. I hope Nap doesn't regret asking me to start posting on PF - I'm going to try and slow it all down so that people don't get fed up with me.

How about painting some of mine...?! :)

Or may I suggest going into elaborate freehands? They’ll last a lot longer then.... :)
