Forward. Adding to the ever expanding and highly popular range of superb WWI subjects from Elan13 Miniatures, today we are treated to this latest release of a fine looking RNAS Pilot figure.
With RFC figures being well catered for and in abundance, it sure is great to see the balance being at least partially addressed. In my opinion RNAS subjects have been massively neglected in comparison, hopefully we will now start to see the tide turning.
First Impressions. The figure comes presented in a clear plastic releasable bag with a full colour photo insert of the completed figure as depicted by the talented figure painter Edward Sage.
(photo below) the included artwork of the very talented Edward Sage.
The Figure. Just the two parts, main body and head. The first thing that hits you is the sheer depth of detail that has been sculpted and cast into these resin pieces. Lets take a closer look at each……
Main Body. Plain to see, this has quality stamped all over it. The dress uniform tunic holds some beautifully authentic and accurate detail, the lapels and brass buttons depicted to perfection.
Under the tunic we see fabulous attention to detail in the nicely sculpted tie and shirt collar whilst the scarf worn between the tunic and leather flying coat adds a nice touch of realism.
(photo below) the main body. Sumptuous detail throughout, the quality we have come to expect from Elan13 Miniatures.
(photo below) authentic reference material was difficult to source, this photo of the dress uniform RNAS tunic is courtesy of The Vintage Aviator and shows perfectly the accurate detailing Robert has sculpted into the figure.
(photo below) another fine example courtesy of The Vintage Aviator. This time the leather flying coat with RNAS insignia on the epaulets. All beautifully and faithfully reproduced in our figure.
(photo below) Laced leather flying boots as worn by our figure. All of that fabulous detail highlighted wonderfully and with real precision, real credit to Roberts skills and his quest for perfection.
(photo below) the stunning levels of detail carries on through the entire figure, looking equally fantastic from the back.
Head. Breathtakingly beautiful, this is a lesson in sculpting. Just sublime attention to detail in the facial features while the headwear is simply oozing more of the same. Quite simply stunning work from the talented hands of Robert Lane.
(photo below) astonishing detail in such a small scale, real credit to Roberts skills once more.
(photo below) a genuine RNAS cap that has been stunningly reproduced in miniature for our figure.
(photo below) insignia on the cap perfectly reproduced in the exquisite sculpting on our figure.
(photo below) bursting and popping with glorious detail, what a joy this will be to paint.
Photos. I have included for reference purposes two photos of the completed figure.
Synopsis. A very welcome subject choice that has been beautifully sculpted with plenty of sumptuous detail. Suitable as a standalone figure or for any number of vignette and diorama purposes this much needed release will be well received by many.
The quality we have come to expect from the company in this flourishing area of the hobby is here in abundance with exquisite casting perfectly highlighting Roberts skills as a sculptor.
Offering tremendous value for money I would strongly urge anyone unfamiliar with the Elan13 Miniatures brand to consider not just this figure but others in the range, all offer equally compelling attention.
Thanks. As ever, my sincere thanks to Robert Lane , proprietor of Elan13 Miniatures and official sponsor of Martin’s Scale Models for this opportunity and the review sample.
