Spent the night sorting out my untouched models, matched them up to the bases I've collected over the years and I'm horrified. OK with the money invested I might not have been able to buy a car but I could have bought a bloody decent bike.
I'm near finishing a Tartar miniatures bust and a Tin Berlin knight, then it's a joint project with Kagemusha (hope I can do it justice) and then the elephants.....
What's held me back is the sheer quality and challenge of these kits.... but buggerit but being 3 years from my three score and ten I'm doing them.
1. Pegaso Mounted Roman.
2. Pegaso Mounted Celt.
3. Andrea Mounted Gothic KNight.
4. PM's Orleans Cavalry Standard Bearer and Trumpeter.
Dann......I've just remembered I've got Pegaso's Culloden diorama somewhere
Better head to the opticians.
I wonder how many of you old farts can relate to this? :D

Hi Del

I reckon I have a whole herd of elephants ...and they keep increasing ...thankfully all busts so less legs and resin than yours

Be great to see what your culling via tge bench from the herd ...especially those PM pieces ...pure classics

Happy benchtime

These are just the ones I'm going to do. The rest remain in the evergrowing Stockpile of Shame.

The sound you just heard, Del, was a snort of self recognition...with me it's Vladimir Danilov's
stuff...he keeps producing irresistible figures so fast that it's not possible to keep up ! I'll have to
find a way to take the unfinished ones with me when the time comes ( after all, each of us will
need something to do in eternity...eh?)

I shipped out most of my GA when I quit back in '06, but I "inherited" a load of stuff from my late brother, mostly plastic kits, but a lot of half-started figures too. Since returning to the fold, I have been selectively recruiting my GA again. There is also a large stash of my own plastic kits insulating the loft and I doubt I'll ever get around to them. As said above, it is an affliction that so far nobody has come up with a vaccine for.

What would have happened to all these great sculptors and companies out there without our crazy bunch of big kids still buying more of their releases? I love my GA - they are my time machine while building them and while browsing through their ranks...too many are no longer available so they justify my expenses back then.
Cheers, Martin

I suppose when we started our GAs we Had the excuse that, " When I retire, I won't have to buy anymore figures", I know I used that to my spouse with the regard to the expense. Didn't work though. I've actually done my Pegaso Roman and the Celt, and, I know that 20 years ago, my eyes would have allowed me to do a better job! Just a thought, we have junior Competion classes in competitions, why not have a Veteran's Class?? There's no doubt that the quality of castings have improved so much these days, than in the days I started, (early 70s), and I wonder, did we make a better job of a mundane casting, than what we have today? Perhaps we could have a "Veteran Casting" competion to see if today's masters could do a similar job with a "Not so Good" figure? Any Takers ?? Ray

Good point Ray. The IPMS has a feature in their bi-monthly magazine, called "Golden Oldies", where modellers have a go at a kit that has whiskers. It is quite popular but the bulk of the input seems to be Airfix stuff. Of course, there are still a lot of old kits out there, but probably fewer old figures. I'd support a "Golden Oldies" competition or gallery for sure.(y)

We all got Grey Armies Phil, and figures we did when we started. I've seen quite a few old figures on here with members asking if anybody can help with identification. I picked up a very old Taisho in the origonal box and a 4 page instruction colour Leaflet. The casting is very crisp. Here's an example of what I mean. This is a Norman Errington sculpt of a 15th century Paris Militia, it's fine from this angle, but turn it sideways and he's woefully thin. Ray

I've got so many kits I'm having a white metal cofin made from them. The resin ones will be melted to form a platform and they will float me down the canal having set light to the whole thing....I've really thought this through as you can see.........

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Who says "you can't take it with you when you go"?!! Utter nonsense :D.

Great idea mate - it could catch on!!

Great thread!

Over the past few months I've pared down my plastic kits collection by more than 25% from over 200 to around 140 at the last count a couple of weeks back. And my aim is to take it down to less than 100.

However most of the proceeds of those sales have gone towards ......... buying even more figures (400+ now and counting).
