Cheers Simon.
I'm thinking Maynard makes more sense.
There is a story line on the box, although I've been unable to find out if this is a fictional or historical character.

Malc

Yes I would say so regarding the spelling, if it was right it would appear on the net somewhere, there appear to be a lot of Elliott Maynards though!

I've just returned from a nice holiday, and thought I'd better get on with this bust.
I was hoping for an nice easy couple of hours painting, but it wasn't to be.
My hope was to basecoat the cuffs, and prepare the hands.
While working on the cuffs, I noticed a section of the lacing had accidentally been left off, and that
one of the hands was going to need a fair amount of filler to hide the join.
I've used Magic Sculpt to create the lacing, and I'll have to paint the hands and pistol
before attaching them, then add the filler.
Not the best way to go about things, but I can't see an easier route to take.

Hope you had a good time away mate, at least you spotted the issues before fully painting everything, it could have been worse.

Cheers Simon

Yes, we had a good time. 5 countries in 7 days, no wonder I'm knackered. Perhaps I need another holiday to recover.
You're absolutely right, it could've been a lot worse if I hadn't noticed it.

I'm back on Grandad duty today, so no progress being made.

I did manage some time yesterday, doing more work on the lapels, and making
a start on the pistols. I've drilled out the barrels to make them look more realistic.
Really looking forward to my next session, to see what I can achieve.

I've been trying to get some nice contrast in the reds, but to be honest I'm not happy with them. I'm going to wait until the coat is finished to see if more work is needed.
Working on one of the pistols has been my main area of concentration this morning.
Before starting on the pistol, I researched a book covering weapons through the ages to get some ideas, and I came across one with nice woodgrain, and thought
I would try and replicate it as best possible.

The reds look OK, I know the feeling you need to add more contrast but red doesn't always need it, good decision to wait till the coats done.

That pistol is looking fantastic, the wood effect is so good, I really like it.

Cheers Simon

Personally I'm quite liking the reds and the way the coat looks with the figure. But definitely wait until you have more painted, as you will really be able to see what needs doing at that point.

Loving the character in the face on this one.

Hi Malc

Nice update , I like the red but see what it looks like when the main coat colours is at least blocked in

As for the pistol ...really nice wood effects

LookImg forward to more ...in between grandad duty

Happy benchtime

Thank you all for your feedback, very much appreciated.
Waiting seems to be the most sensible option, and perhaps something I should do on future figures.

I painted the second pistol this morning, and have given the hands a basecoat of flesh, ready for detailing tomorrow.

Finally I can provide a small update.
Apart from finishing the pistols of which I'm unable to show, as I was unable to download them onto my laptop.
I've painted the swordbelt, initially painted and detailed in acrylics, before adding some oils to add vibrancy to the colour.
The blue basecoat of the jacket needs another coat or two before I add the shadows and highlights.

Hi Malc

Good to see the update , nice work on the leather so far , look forward to seeing the Oils being used

The blue is going to be very good once you’ve progressed against the red

‘Lucky’ is heading to a fine result

Thanks for post

Take it easy

Happy benchtime

Nice work, I think already the blue jacket has put the red in context as it were, I'll bet you won't need to adjust at all. The leather looks well used oils will bring it to life.

Cheers Simon

Cheers Nap.
More to do with the oils on the leather, and hopefully make some more progress on the jacket.
But not today, off to do something different. :D

Hi Simon
I did post a reply yesterday but it hasn't appeared. :(. The oils certainly do add life and vibrancy, and I'll be doing some more work on it this morning.
I'm glad you like the composition of the blue and red, as I wanted to do something a little different
As for the sash and trousers, I'm still undecided on a colour choice.
Perhaps a dark yellow for the sash.....

Malc

I like how this is coming together, it will be a lovely piece and I'm sure the colours you select will sit harmoniously with the others.

Thanks Melanie.
I've put some thought into the colours for the sash and trousers, fingers crossed they work.

I finally feel the bust is coming together, being able to cement the arms in position have brought the bust to life.
At this stage I've finished detailing the leather belt, and applied another coat of blue to the jacket,
I'm letting this dry out thoroughly before applying another coat.
