Thank you very much Carl for everything. Roman figures are very popular these days so i guess that even if i missed this one the article will come in handy in the near future.

Beautiful paint job.I'd personally apply a wash of a darker brown to his beard to give it more contrast.
Brian

Brian thank you for your comment. You re right about that cause the brows and the beard tends to be darker than the hair and it already has a subtle variation but I guess it s not strong enough to show.

Hello brian.Well for all the silver/steal parts i choose to leave the metal unprimed cause i ve come to realize that no paint or ink can match it. From there i used some ivory black (oils). This was applied with no dillution but after the brush was whipped alot on a paper towel to get the excess oil and paint. After it was applied i waited for 5 mins or more for the paint to set a little. Then with the little stick with cotton edges that we clean our ears (i dont know the name apparently) i tried to completely whipe the paint from the edges of the metal. This was done at some extent with my bear fingers, especially the little one. After the same procedure was repeated a couple of times or more to get a satisfactory result, i use fine lines of pure acrylic black lightly dilluted to separate the metal parts and that is all. One thing that is of great importance is to clean and varnish the figure very good to get the metal shinny. If you are not satisfied you can add some pure silver ink at the metal edges in the end. Hope this help.

Dimitrios, I must say WOW on your work on this beatiful figure. Man, you going fast. But the quality is so high, that you continously keep inspiring me. You becoming one of my favourite painters in this hobby and that´s without any doubt!(y)
Back to the figure, I love the lionskin and the shield. Some very nice weathering on it and it all looks very realistic. Skin tones of Commodus itself are crispy and clean. Fantastic painting on all fronts!
best regards,
R.L.

Robert now you got me going WOW with you re kind words. You know i think highily of your painting skills and as a matter of fact i used the pics from your work as reference for this one. So hearing such compliments from you is really like music to my ears. Thank you.

Chapeau bas !

I wanted to press the Like button, but after opening all the pictures I get to the conclusion that your work is worth more.
It-s simply great the way you choose the colors and how you put them there. Especialy the skin tones and modulation are a treat to my eye.
I can't but agree with your opinion about metals. Why trying to replicate metal on a metal piece.
Congratulation for your skill.
Regards from Bucharest.

Calin thank you for taking the time to leave such a comment. It feels great to know that your work is being appreciated by people who are involved in the hobby and don't just go "oh! nicely painted liitle toy figure".
Best regards
Dimitris

Hi Dimitrios,

I think you've done a wonderful job on this figure so far. The shield and the skin tones are superb and the details on the shield are breath taking. My only suggestion is to pick out some of the details of the lion mane. It seems a bit dark to me and could be lightened up a little bit through the subtle application of a few highlights.
