It is with sadness that I have to announce that Euro Miniature Expo scheduled for 19th/20th September 2020 will not now go ahead.

My decision is based upon several factors due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

1) Lockdown in the UK is only being gradually & slowly lifted. It is subject to review & the roadmap dates may be pushed back depending on what happens going forward

2) The Leas Cliff Hall together with Hotels, Restaurants & Pubs in Folkestone are currently closed & only scheduled to re-open in July around 9 weeks before the show was due to go ahead.

3) There is a quarantine/self-isolation requirement on people coming into the UK which is in place for at least 3 weeks with no firm date when it will be lifted.

4) The Government has made it clear that Social Distancing is with us for the foreseeable future. Even if it is reduced from 2 metres, it makes it very difficult to hold the show as there would have to be a lot of restrictions at the venue.

5) A big part of the show is the social side of the weekend. Given that Pubs, restaurants will have similar restrictions on spacing etc. it seems likely that modellers attending the show will have difficulty eating out & socialising. My local pub is already saying that there will be strict rules on how many people can be in the premises & that booking to visit for a drink as well as meals will be required.

6) There is a strong possibility that many modellers will lack the confidence to attend the show due to concerns over health issues which also makes it difficult to be certain that the show is viable in the current circumstances.

Taking all of this into account, I have decided to cancel the show this year.

On a more positive note, the Leas Cliff Hall is booked for the show to go ahead on the 18th/19th September 2021 – please put the date in your diary!

It's a shame.

There is an aviation museum about 30 miles away, outside Reading, the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. Every year, they host the World War II Weekend, scheduled as close to the D-Day anniversary as possible. Lots of re-enactors, lots of restored warbirds, talks given by the ever-dwindling number of WW II vets. They originally postponed it to July 31 - August 2, but our governor has not relented about lifting his lockdown (he's headed to our Commonwealth supreme court for a fight with the General Assembly over it), so this week, the MAAM announced that they've had to cancel the event altogether for this year.

Oh, well, we'll all have to see each other next year.

Prost!

Hi Steve

Never a easy decision but the only one possible in the current situation

You have highlighted reasons well particularly No:6

Look forward to the 2021 show when we are hopefully in a better position

Stay safe

Hi Steve,

Cant say this comes as a surprise but we fully understand and support your decision.
Please keep our table booking for 2021 as we will be there.

Everyone else stay safe and happy modelling. And keep an eye out for our Euro 2020 releases - more news to follow nearer the time ;)

A sad but necessary outcome for this year's show. I always look forward to the social side of things, apart from emptying my wallet on "must-haves". I have to say that all manufacturers, sculptors and retailers have really stepped up to the mark in continuing to offer excellent service throughout.
I look forward to meeting up with you all in 2021.....stay healthy, chaps, and keep smiling. We'll get through this, I have no doubt.

May your gods go with you,
Alan

Sad news indeed!
Euro, SMC Eindhoven, all continental figure events cancelled or postponed to 2021, as are air shows and concerts, we might as well skip the year 2020 and keep painting and sculpting.
I hope the social side of the hobby will pick up when things are back to 'normal'!

Steve

Sorry to hear the news, but was kind of expecting it. :(
I'm already looking forward to 2021 and catching up with everyone.
