A Fixture
It is with sadness that I have to announce that Euro Miniature Expo scheduled for 19th/20th September 2020 will not now go ahead.
My decision is based upon several factors due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.
1) Lockdown in the UK is only being gradually & slowly lifted. It is subject to review & the roadmap dates may be pushed back depending on what happens going forward
2) The Leas Cliff Hall together with Hotels, Restaurants & Pubs in Folkestone are currently closed & only scheduled to re-open in July around 9 weeks before the show was due to go ahead.
3) There is a quarantine/self-isolation requirement on people coming into the UK which is in place for at least 3 weeks with no firm date when it will be lifted.
4) The Government has made it clear that Social Distancing is with us for the foreseeable future. Even if it is reduced from 2 metres, it makes it very difficult to hold the show as there would have to be a lot of restrictions at the venue.
5) A big part of the show is the social side of the weekend. Given that Pubs, restaurants will have similar restrictions on spacing etc. it seems likely that modellers attending the show will have difficulty eating out & socialising. My local pub is already saying that there will be strict rules on how many people can be in the premises & that booking to visit for a drink as well as meals will be required.
6) There is a strong possibility that many modellers will lack the confidence to attend the show due to concerns over health issues which also makes it difficult to be certain that the show is viable in the current circumstances.
Taking all of this into account, I have decided to cancel the show this year.
On a more positive note, the Leas Cliff Hall is booked for the show to go ahead on the 18th/19th September 2021 – please put the date in your diary!
