and I think this is my last one. Working this scale with old eyes is not half the fun it used to be. This is a plastic Citadel figure from the Warhammer game. Jo Sanyo, oils, inks and Mr. Metal along with a suitable amount of synthetic sugar....

The Color of Black

I had the chance to see this at MFCA and it was really a gem among a very high quality fantasy field. The colors in the lower wings have a luminous look, integral to the area, and not just colored washes layed over the blacks, and seveal tones of understated blacks are worked throughout the figure. The freehand in the scroll is outstanding as well. Then there are the small touches that old Pros like John like to play with, like the chopped up micro sequins that sparkle in different colors in small areas of the snow and grab your eye as one turns the figure.

When you can do Fantasy as well as this, maybe it means that`s what the Dark Gods want you to do J. ;)

The black-on-black theme is really well-done and adds greatly to the atmosphere. The whole ambiance reminds me of Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer.

Can't wait for your next mini, ten years on ;).

Thank you for all the kind words Rich, Quang and John. You guys are tempting me... maybe after my eyes uncross....

The photos do not do this figure justice. I saw it and I really liked it! and yes thye use of black is carried off very well.

What I like is the way the blacks have different finishes to help with a black n black contrast.

Gloss for the armour, satin for some fittings, so on.

This would be a good one to learn from.....

Cheers

Very fun piece John. I love a fantasy piece now and again, and to see all the detail they pump inot these little gems, who can blame a guy! Fun stuff!
