Hi Steven.
Sounds like you're another fan of this range (and obviously a fan of red coats);)
I think the cut off jacket gives the impression of long legs. The FeR figures I've got and painted have all been excellent in terms of casting quality and I'm not entirely sure it would be possible to stretch the legs when releasing them from the mould, but I'm happy to measure the ones on my figure so that you can compare if that would be helpful?

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,
Yes, since discovering this range I have become a big fan and have bought all five British. I find the quality of sculpting, the casting and the resin itself to all be of a high quality. I did plunge the legs of the 40th foot figure into boiling water and assert some pressure to get them to contract.
When I stand him next to the 71st Foot figure, he seems ok.

Kind Regards
Steve

Cheers Guys :joyful:

...Glad you're also liking the S75 tubes too. I think most of the acrylics available are excellent, but similar to use in practice. These however allow a slightly different method which is a step forward IMO. They won't suit everybody, but I'm a fan. Only drawback I've found is I haven't found a way of racking them up easily on the workbench. I'm debating making an MDF stand with slots to carry them . . .

Paul

Hey DaddyO, only now catching up with this thread and your beautiful work.
Regarding a stand for the tubes, you might consider the following product by Hobbyzone of Poland (I use it for my oils), unless of course you want to make your own...

Best,

Benny

Glad you like it Benny and thanks for the heads up on the paint tube rack; I'll have a look at that later (y)

Late to the party with this, Paul, my apologies. What a nice job you've done, and on a very nice sculpt.
It reminded me of Rick Scollins' work immediately, too.

Thanks very much Merryweather (late comers always welcome);)

These really are nice figures full of character and great fun to paint

Paul I have this currently on the workbench. Had to reposition the head as I couldnt get to grips with what he was staring at. What did you use for the trouser? I was going for an off-white but do like your effect. Have the cuffs and collar got a yellow tinge?

Hi Jimmy
Nice figure which I'm sure you'll have fun with. (y)
Facing for the 40th is Buff rather than yellow.

The breech colour was based around a mixture of Scale 75 Tube 'Buff' with a dash of a yellow ochre from the Andrea yellow paint set (No 4 I think) and a touch of Vallejo Neutral grey to subdue it. Highlights were made by mixing Vallejo Light Flesh and a little 'Off white' into the base colour and shadows were made by some of the browns I had on the pallet and a dash of purple. They then had several glazes of different shades of brown to weather.
I was aiming for a kind of worn 'shammy leather' appearance since the breeches were sometimes replaced by locally made 'hide' items to protect against the brambles and undergrowth.

Hope that helps. (As Merryweather mentioned there were old Military Modelling uniform paintings by Rick Scollins showing how the uniform was adapted to local conditions by the troops which were the inspiration for me, so I tried to capture some of the sense of these when painting him up. I've attached a couple for you)

Cheers for now
Paul
