Interesting, but the 6th century AD is comparatively modern. Figure modelling is far older than this. The ancient Egyptian soldier figures in the tomb of Mehseti are about 4,000 years old. There are Roman gladiator "action figures" from the 2nd century AD with removable helmets and interchangeable weapons (and, knowing the Romans, I bet they had recasters too). The earliest figure models of all are around 30,000 years old.
