Filippo Buondelmonti degli Scolari, so called Pippo Spano, was a late medieval condottiere, a native of a village near Florence, who made his fortune in the Kingdom of Hungary by arriving, also through his marriage with a Hungarian noblewoman, to the title of "Ispan", similar to our Earl. In fact, Spano is the Italianization of Ispan. Cavalry commander was, until his death, constantly engaged in military campaigns against the Turks and also against Venice. In this context he was the protagonist of the invasion of Friuli in 1411. His image has been handed down to us by a fresco by Andrea del Castagno in the cycle of illustrious Florentines in the Villa Carducci di Legnaia. Pegaso piece 90mm obviously in progress.
