Great. I will be there too :D And remember: The show will be in the Reduit Tilly and I know I very good hotel  where you will find many, many visitors of the show

Cheers Ulrich, Davie stayed in the Anker last year with Stephan our mate fromStuttgart. I've previously driven through on the Saturdays from Munich or Garmisch so I'd be grateful if you could PM the name of the hotel (y)

Well done! The face painting is especially effective and brings out the jowly look of the piece.

When photographing flats, use an overall light head on, but also add a light that is coming from the direction of your painted light. Use the white balance setting on your camera to match the color temp. It'll help reduce the light washing out the colors. Flats can also be scanned. Put a dark felt background over the piece.

Cheers,

Glen

Thanks Glen, the advice is much appreciated and it had never occurred that a scan would work. (y)

Derek, my comment wasn't a criticism of this piece, just a general comment as far as painting flats goes. Congratulations for jumping in at the deep end, you haven't chosen the easiest of subjects. :D

Roger.

Never crossed my mind Roger, and all criticism is welcome anyway particularly when like yours, it comes with really helpful observations (y)

Hi Del, that is a hell of a "First serious attempt at a Flat" really nice job (y)

Excellent work Del my current flats are awaiting the usual nitromors bath again :(

It's a helluva learning curve Steve. Saw the bust of your 'Da' at Rons last night. It's got a great 'period' look and the challenge is very much in controlling the shading .....how's yours coming along ?

Hi Del it's Hawk miniatures who stocks the Gladiators however I'll be speaking to John in the next few days so I'll let him know to hold you one.

Cheers Ken

Hi Del,
Nice work, as previously mention slight more high list and shadows to give a little more depth. But nice to see you giving flats a try.

Alas I am afraid Ken wont have Rafa's Gladiators at Euro as he only stock his range, lovely flats that they are ;) But not to worry if you pass by my stand I will gladly show all of Rafa's flats to you including his recently release French Hussar.

Keep up the good work.

, it's part of a 'project'

Thanks John....I should have known that.......it's an age thing :D The gladiators piece is a certainty, it's part of a project. The Hussar looks brilliant, the photo showing the painted and unpainted version side by side on a palm really shows what sort of results a skilled painter can acheive.

Seen this in the Flesh also very nice for a first on a flat (y) look forward to your even more serious second attempt on a flat:)Del
