Has anyone found the mix for this style?
What mix is used for the 5 oclock shadow?

I have been painting for years and have had good luck with the flesh mix ver the years but this style is
what I would like to have a crack at.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Welcome to Planet Figure. I'm sure someone will have a link to an SBS prepared by Mr Young which will provide you with his painting recipe or at least point you in the right direction.

Knowing the recipe and being able to produce those types of results are however two very differnt things. Good luck

While nowhere near this standard I just use a small touch of Paynes Grey into a normal flesh mix for 5 o'clock shadow which seems to do the trick. Thats oils but should work ok with acrylics. If it seems a bit heavy you can lay on washes of flesh to tone it down.

Jonathan, I'm not sure if the young busts are painted in acrylics or oils, but my advice to you would be to create your own style with the flesh mixes, as for 5 o'clock shadow I use a mix of umber and Payne's grey with some of my initial flesh mix added, starting off light and getting darker whichever your preference is.
