If you're interested in the franco prussian conflict and would like to know more about the Battle of Mars-la-Tour, here's the best website on that subject I've found so far. Now don't expect a really brilliant site, but it's good nevertheless. As far as I can see, only the combats in the vicinity of Mars-la-Tour itself are treated here! So there's a few episodes missing. It's all in French, but they promise to bring the English version online soon ... ...oh well.

So what do you get here:
under "guerre" you'll find details about the fr pr war in general, the main personalities AND descriptions and illustrations of the weapons used - chassepot, dreyse, krupp breechloader, de la hitte muzzle loader, and mitrailleuse .
under "presentation" you'll find some personalities (french and prussian officers) and details of the topography of the battlefield.
..."combats" will give you all you ever wanted to know about the great battle! The famous great cavalry clash is under "Charge de L'Yron" ... click the ill. if you want bigger ones. Some good, untried ideas here for figures. Don't forget, the cavalry clash involved no less than 6000 troopers - Ney's cavalry charge at Waterloo was done with 5000. The infantry battle is under "fond de la cuve".
Hope you like,
