Frankenstein Skin

For fun (and a bit of a distraction), I picked up both a classic Frankenstein and a Herman Munster bust at the recent MMSI show in Chicago. If anyone has seen Nap's avatar, I'd like to try and attain the same effect. Anyone have any mixes for the skin tones and the mouth? Oils preferred but I'll try acrylics

BTW, I have asked Nap.....he wants to know too

Only guessing, but I should think it's mostly black and white modified with viridian hue. BTW I love the Munsters too.

I prefer the grey/violet version to the green. BTW Lilly was way hotter than Morticia Addams.

Im also intrested in how this thread goes. Im looking for good skin tone ideas for my own 'Monster' bust. P.s I watched both shows when I was young but I most loved George Barris's Munster Mobile and Grandpa's Dragula!!

G.W. used to do an aptly named colour called rotting flesh that would be just about perfect as a base, the rest I think you'd need to trial and error but a very light flesh with a bit of Paynes Grey might work

Green:
Cad Yellow Light with a spot of Cerulean Blue (then add white to get to the right value). Fairly simple and it looks like a good match that can be adjusted up or down with white.

Grey is a bit more complicated:
Mix a little bit of Burnt Umber with Pthalo Blue (2:1 ratio)
Then add a spot of this mix and a spot of Naples Yellow to lots of White.
(Recipe No 91 in the book)

Like all oil mixes, there are probably a thousand different ways to get to the same mixes, these are but 2 examples.

For what it's worth, here's a recipe for dead flesh I used from David Fisher (Modelmania) to be applied over a grey primer:

"I mix a base skintone of Raw Siena and White with Burnt Umber, a touch of Payne’s Gray and a touch of Purple. The combination of Raw Siena and White gives you a golden/beige color, adding Burnt Umber makes the color “cooler” in tone, and Purple gives the color a death-like pallor. You could also use blue or green in place of purple."

I remember a interview with Karloff's daughter shown on TV a few years ago. She distinctly remembered that the makeup used on her father for the monster was definitely green.

Just an aside I also saw an interview with Bela Lugosi during which he was asked if he believed in vampires. His answer was to the effect; "Why not, I married enough of them!"

The casting is a little rough but for the price I have no complaints. I replaced the bolts with tube/sprue, added a bit more hair and attempted to re-sculpt the ears. Looking at the pics, I see a couple of spots where I will sand a bit more but this project is simply for fun.

Great thread, Paul. I have the old Frankenstein kit from Horizon that I've never been able to paint to my satisfaction.
And I picked up a different bust of Herman Munster at the IPMS Nats this past August.
