Thanks Roger, it's been easier because I'd just finished sculpting an Imperial Guard, and had made molds , I should slow down now with the fiddly bits .

Cheers Ken

Many thanks John.
Since joining PF and reading all vBench and everything else ( 5 days straight :) ) its inspired me , I wish I'd joined years ago.
Cheers Ken

Well a little bit more done, the Russian woman has now got a jacket and one boot on.
Can anyone advise some sort of decoration for the coat as it's a bit plain, braid, fur or whatelse.

Cheers Ken

Neary finished ( famous last words )

I set myself a goal, to input daily progress pics and it really has pushed me along.
One side is nearly complete, the rear of the model still needs quite a bit of sculpting to finish and I'm also attempting to sculpt a dog , as in the origin artwork.

Many thanks for looking, all comments welcome.

Many thanks Roger,

it may have to be sidelined awhile as my painting skills need to be improved,

whilst other painters bring a figure to life , I kill it . :) :)

Cheers Ken

Well, Ken,
I would happily give away various body parts to have such apparent ease with sculpting as you have....not my own, of course, but I can think of a few people who could be persuaded...;):D

Ok, dry humour off for a moment

How long have you been at sculpting - that level of finish implies that you have been sculpting for a long time.

As for painting, if you don't mind, what do you think limits your painting, and what mediums have you used?

By dragging the challenge into light of day, your fellow planeteers may help you wrestle it into submission.

When I try some sculpting of a non cartoon character, I hope you can offer some insight!!

Cheers

Well done Ken
Good to see how it developed :) Especially like face of the lady (Thumbs up)

Can I ask how you sculpt the patten on the hat?

Many thanks Jamie,
In answer to your questions- I've been sculpting on and off for the last 4-5 years and class myself as a novice ( I've only just started using a damp brush to smooth and blend ).
It was on a visit to Euro in 06 that I saw what the late Roy Hunt was achieving with Magic-sculpt and after buying some and trying it I was hooked.

After reading Bill Horans Masterclass book, I tried enamels, a bit hit and miss, especially the faces. I thought I would improve using acrylics like the masters but it's like a computer nerd explaining programming, I just seem to glaze over.
One particular web site I use is www.thesculptorscorner.com it's invaluable to improve your sculpting. Hope it helps
Anyway Jamie I'll get off the couch now so don't forget to send me your bill :):):)

Leo and Matthew, many thanks for your comments.

Leo - The womens hat was simply done using a cocktail stick and a needle, I used 75% Magic sculpt and 25% Duro, it's best to wait about 30 mins before stabbing. Hope I've explained it enough and you've found it of use.

Mathew - I also wish it was going commercial, just so that I could see what a master painter would do with it.

Ken, many thanks for the link; have book marked it....

Well, the only paint medium you haven't put hand to yet is oils.

But seeing as I am still a rank novice, I cant really say too much with out seeing what flavoured shoes I'm wearing:D

I can offer this bit of experience; lay your hands on some figures, and just try something with paint and brush; and have a can of oven cleaner to strip paint from it, and try again...I think I have stripped more then I have painted to date......sigh.....

Still, I like the sculpt, the lady anatomy seems on, the soldier is posed right for some one carrying a load; I have seen some figures sculpted where there is a heavy back pack worn, and the centre of gravity is outside the zone of support from the feet. (hope that made sense)

Cheers

(off to wash licorice flavoured shoes from mouth...)
