Hi folks

Noticed this on social media

Andy Cairns just released this

French revolutionary Soldier

1/10th

No other details

SK Miniatùres ( Kirtles on PF ) carry his range so hopefully this will be one of them

It's certainly full of character and a new period for AC models

There's no doubt that this is a period in history that's given the modeller a lot of material. This is no exception, I like the classical style of it.

I love the subject, the pose and the character, but I have to say that the sculpt looks very rough. For one thing, look at those big gaps under his hat - and that's just for starters.

I'd hope that this is just a photo of the unfinished "WIP". Otherwise it's a very shoddy release and nowhere near the standard we've come to expect in recent years.

Nice concept but a heck of a lot refinement required and it could be special

Hi guys

Both very good comments , I presume this is a casting that's released on FB Andy says available now

I have painted some of andys busts and agree they do need TLC but I have been happy with the result when finished

I'm afraid that's what you get from AC models, nice figures but garbage castings.

And that's exactly why I've never bought an AC figure. I've seen a few up close and they were not good. Which is a real shame because he covers some great subjects and is one of the nicest blokes you could wish to meet (I met him at Euro a few years back).

Hi Guys

I asked Andy for done more pictures

He sent me these , looking at the pin on it this is the master but still shows the same concerns as in first picture

I have asked for pics of the pieces

A big shame it's like this as I like the way it's cut underneath and the grizzled face

Anyway here's what Andy sent

I think the sculpting is the major problem, as said, you can only get out what you put in.

Paul Blaber is another sculptor who produces rough finished pieces. I am not sure if it is a deliberate style or not.

If you look at Andy`s style of sculpting it is usually all about expression and emotion. His figures translate that "campaign"-feel very well. When it comes to engineering, finishing of surfaces and adding crisp details you have to take these pieces further by yourself to the extend you strive for.
Andy is not the only sculptor out there who is producing miniatures this way - it is good to see that the strong and weak points of a sculpt can be discussed without having a keyboard war... IMHO it would not hurt if some other releases would likewise be examined a bit more closely. I appreciate that Andy was willing to provide good pictures of his sculpt - regardless of visible flaws.
Cheers, Martin
