Hello All,

This piece is one I started almost two years ago, however, due to other committments with my aircraft modelling (my other love), I put it up on the shelf for a while (the paint is probably dry by now :lol. It's only my third figure, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It's a Verlinden 200mm bust painted with airbrushed enamels and acrylics, with oils used for shading and highlights (especially on the face). I don't have any reference, and am just using the box photos for colour info. The face is pretty much done, but I still have work to do on the shako and collar.

I'm looking forward to getting this one done, and move onto the next.

Welcome to the Pf Brent. To be honest your first job has really impressed me. I really love your flesh tones. What's your mix btw? Keep up the good work and welcome again.

Brent,
Excellent work...One of my favorite pieces from Verlinden.
I really like your flesh tones, and knowing that you used an airbrush leaves me in awe.
If I can make one recommendation...consider outlining the shacko with a deep black violet. This will help offset all the black and accent the white cords and brass eagle.
Also, you might want to draw a eyelash line at the top of the eye and at the bottom...this will break up the eye from the upper and lower eye lids.

Can't wait to see more.

IRT Kisifer: I'm almost embarrassed to admit what my flesh tone "mix" is, especially after reading about eveyone's special flesh tone mixes. I undercoated with either Tamiya Flesh (XF-15) or Model Master Warm Tint Flesh (enamel) (I can't remember which one I used). The shading was done using oils, with a basic overall thin coating of Winsor & Newton Winton Flesh tint, and Schmincke Mussini burnt sienna for the shadows. Highlights were applied with a bit of he Winton base flesh colour, and VERY sparing amounts of pure white.

P.S. As I examine the tube of Winsor & Newton Winton Flesh tint, I see now that it is actually a pre-mix of Titanium white, Mars yellow, an Alizarin crimson - I didn't know that before.

IRT: Patrick, thankyou - but the airbrushing was only used for some of the shako detail and shading and for all the base coats - all face shading was done with oils. Thanks for the feedback!

Here's a photo of the torso, in an early stage. The base/prime coat here is simply flat black, and I've started airbrushing in the white sections of his jacket. The blue portions are going to be a very dark blue, so I think that the black base coat will work well for that as well, although time will tell.
