Roger just checked the tube it's Cad Red Scarlet for the highlights " whata mistaka to make'a
Ps it's a series 4 tube W/N so carries a hefty price tag but mine is about 20 years or so old "you don't need much"

Cheers Ron, I can live with that, it's really the shading I'm interested in. I've been using Viridian but I'm looking for alternatives.

Yeah, that base kind of "makes" the figure - which is excellently painted - but it's the presentation that really makes it pop.
Cheers

Harry this one was in a job lot for sale as part of the grey army of a modeller since pasted on, proceeds going to his widow.
It just leapt out of the pile into my hands got home and made a base for it right away ,it then jumped to the front for of the ever expanding Que for painting .

Red always seems to pop out a bit and if you match it with a black base it leaps out :)
Now on the search for Garibali around 75 mm , and Bersaglieri

Great job Ron.

I had one of these but for some reason just couldn't get on with it. Couldn't get a red I was happy with so stripped it down 3 times in total , then bits started breaking off ..... then I just gave up and binned it as it had become a chore.

You've inspired me to maybe get another one and try again though, because it is a lovely piece.

Sometimes happens Steve many of mine have ended in the bin :)
a note on the red, I undercoated with Humbrol Matt 100 via airbrush before the oils .

Great painting Ron.
I love the shading, detail and painting of the gaiters or whatever the correct historical name for them is.
Brilliant work overall.

masterclass does a Garibaldi on foot (75mm) and one mounted (54mm I believe).
Beneito does three Bersaglieri at Porta Pia (when Rome fell to the Piedmontese in 1870), but they are 54mm.
