Horrido!

Always a welcome sight to see a new Gebirgsjäger figure. Though it would have been nicer to see him with breeches, knee length Wickelgamaschen (puttees), and mountain boots which was more common for this unit.

Hi Gordon ,

Well what can I say except mmmmmmmmmmmm ..tasty well done to Mr C and MMM for releasing this , a nice subject , regarding the putees perhaps an optional set of lower legs might be made available , I take it the badge needs to be freehand ...a nice challenge .

Like others I too look forwad to seeing this one painted .

Great sculpt. A question: is the gun too small or they had a model like this?
Hello Marco
Thanks for your observation in respect of the rifle.I have spoken to Maurice who informs me that the weapon is a standard issue Kar98 with bayonet fixed and in scale to the figure. It may well be the angle of the photograph which makes it look small.
Cheers

Having a little more time to study the figure, I also note that the sleeve Edelweiß seems to be too low on the sleeve. Generally, the patch was worn 16cm from the top of the shoulder seam of the tunic. Here are a few reference photos:

Es war ein Edelweiß...

(...)the weapon is a standard issue Kar98 with bayonet fixed and in scale to the figure.(...)

As far as I know the gun should be shorter than a K98k, for from 1940 the German mountain troops (Gebirgsjäger) did not use any more the standard gun K98k, but the "Gewehr 33/40“ which had been modified under the manufacturing code "945" especially for the use with the German mountain troops.

The gun 33/40 was produced in Brünn (today: Brno/Tchechia) and was introduced from 1940 as a weapon specially for the mountain infantrymen.

The weapon was 998 mm long and weighed 3.45 kg. The run was 490 mm long.
All together the weapon was about 12 cm shorter than the standard-infantry gun K98k.

In addition, the weapon in many further details soaked off from the K98k-gun.

Here the gun K98k …:

The Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 756 was founded on the 9th of November, 1942 and since January, 1943 it was engaged in Africa. So it should have been equipped with the "Gewehr 33/40".

Already in May, 1943 the regiment after 4-day heavy fights with the British 78th Infantery division was destroyed nearly completely.

And after all informations, I have, the Gebirgsjäger in North Afrika wore also the same boots as in Europe and no "Tropenstiefel".
