I set my Series 77 kits aside for a quick trip into 1/35 scale plastic. This is a nicely detailed kit and I will definitely do more Master Box kits in the future.

Back Story: It's 1880 and Jameson has been hired by a gold mine owner in Virginia City, Nevada to protect his interests. While he patrols the area around the mine, he is accompanied by Ulysses, one of the mine owners dogs (named after former President Grant). Ulysses has "adopted" Jim and insists on accompanying him in return for a treat now and then. Jim appreciates the company.

The Kit: Jameson and his horse were not modified other than the addition of a more defined belt buckle and the horses reins. The kit comes with two horse heads and necks. One raised up and one lowered down. The reins are made from Black electric tape. Ulysses came from an old Historex plastic kit and I added a collar.

The base was made with small pieces of slate (from a local DIY store) joined together with epoxy putty. Some sand and artificial grass products were then added.

All painting was done in acrylics.

Thanks for looking and stay safe!
Ken

That's a nice looking kit for plastic injection, wasn't aware of these from Masterbox will look into them more.
Very nice paintjob on figure and horse along with the dog, nice basework also.

Excellent work as always Ken. Don't think I've seen this one before. I'll have to check with my hobby shop when or should I say if it ever reopens. Stay safe.

That’s another outstanding figure Ken, & beautifully painted by you as always. The idea of using two pieces of slate to form the base is tremendous, & the result looks very realistic. Masterbox do some of the best injection-moulded 1/35 figure sets on the market, & their range of ideas for projects is original & varied too.

Thanks Chris! I bought a huge bag of slate for a few dollars a couple of years ago and continue to use it extensively in my groundwork and I have several more MasterBox kits to work on.

I appreciate the comment!

Cheers,
Ken

Excellent work on the figure and groundwork Ken.
You've superbly hidden the fact that this is a simple plastic kit.
Just had a look at MB's website. The Civil War figures look like they have a lot of potential.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Ken

Thanks Mike and Andrew! They have some really nice figures, especially in my favorite American West and Civil War periods. Some of the detail can be a little soft, as is typical of plastic, but a little file work and some creative painting helps a lot. I'll certainly be doing more in the future.

Cheers,
Ken
