This guy has been on the shelf of shame for some nine months . Finally pushed him to a finish,
three attempts at the face , two on the furs and three on the shield

The camera has thrown up a couple of points that need attention and I need to wait till the first layer of weathering on the shield is dry before the next two stages .
But all minor stuff now.

Good for you Ron This is superb painting. The fur's are quite superb and as for the shield, knockout.
Deserves a place at the front of your display.
Regards

Well done Ron! You knocked out a marvelous looking piece. The textures, colors, the simple design on the shield and the groundwork all tie in for a realistic scene (y)!

Cheers Joe
Going simple on the shield! could go nuts as is the trend theses days on shields but in reality these guys were much more practical and probably had little or no painting on shields.
Then again as the meticulous Del pointed out on his very recent visit to my house . The axe on this guy is actually Frankish and not Germanic ; so I suppose anything goes in this period :)

You can now point out to future visitors that the axe is actually Frankish (thanks to Del), and that your man was well traveled :D!
