All-

I just returned from a nice vacation to lovley Iraq and I am ready to hit the work bench.

I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and wanting to start a million projects at once.

How do you all settle in and pick one subject? Also, do you have any exercises to get back into painting?

Hi Yancy, bet it is good to be back. a couple of good questions, oh and do wish I had some good answers .

As for work on the bench, some modellers like Guy seem to have loads of projects underway. I can usually just stick to one, as it takes all my concentration to get that one done!. as for subject matter i like to paint whatever takes my fancy.

Making time for modelling, well I wish i knew the answer to that one. My old excuse was that i was just going upstairs for half an hour to do a bit of painting. This usually took 2 hours.

I am lucky that my partner, the ever patient Michelle is back at college, so while she is doing her projects I sit upstairs with her to keep her company aaaaah i hear you say. I just happen to do some painting while up there.

Hey Yancy!

Welcome Back! I know what the itcing to get something started feeling is like. Pick a figure that you really like, whatever that may be, and get started. Maybe if you feel like you need to do some 'warming' up again, choose a simpler, few color figure that will get you going again. The main thing is just to get something going! Looking forward to see what you decide to start on.

Yancy,

Welcome back and thank you . (y)

Sometimes just picking up some good books with lots of color plates of uniforms helps. Or just visiting online dealers and "browsing might spark some interest.

Took your advice and decided to press on with a bust from Geometric.

I choose this particular kit due to its size and my need to practice my airbrush skills.

Afterwards I plan to move down to a smaller piece and practice my brush work.

Thanks for the help.

Yancy,
Welcome home and thank you for the freedom you help provide us with. How about picking something from a historical era you've never worked in? For instance, I've wanted to try my hand at painting either a 75, 80, or 90mm figure (which I've never done before) so I picked a subject from the 30-year-war: UEM's Graf Von Sporck. I'm having a great time painting it and learning lots as well.

Again, thank you. First one's on me in Chicago.
