I started work on this 75mm Gladiator from Pegaso the other weekend. So far I'm mostly happy with how it's going... but I feel like it's still not quite where I'd like it to be. I don't know if it's the shading or if I should add some more tones to the skin. Any advice on how to improve it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Might be the light but the skin is a little grey and flat to my eye, it would be perfect if he was a zombie gladiator though (y)

Hi David
It looks like the skin could do with a bit more reddish tones although it looks pretty good to me but i would finish the rest of the figure and see what you think then.I've had this problem when painting large areas of flesh as it's hard to visualise the final result when all your looking at is a mass of flesh.
I'm actually painting a Gladiator at the moment and have the same problem but i'll plod on with the rest of the figure and then i may have to adjust the fleshtones which can be a bit more difficult as i paint in oils.

Thanks for the comments. Brian, that was sort of what I was thinking. I hoped once I'd painted the clothing and armor it'd become a little more obvious what the skin needed. I might try to add a little more red then.

My usual skin mix is a little on the light side and I thought it would be a poor fit for a gladiator. I figure these guys are out in the sun all day, their skin should be pretty dark. So I had to change my normal mix and I'm still experimenting. Thanks for the suggestions!
