Hi Guys
Just wondering, do many of you put a gloss coat on the eyes for the last effect. I have in the past but want to know if people here do and is there a scale you like to do it to and not do it to. Just woundering if I should finish of the face of my Fireball Pilot in the Vbench section with it.
Thanks

Hi there

Personally I do a 50/50 mx of gloss and satin on mine

It also depends on the scale and how much of the eye is showing .....for me anyway!!

Nap

What brand do you use Nap??

I always apply a gloss coat to eyes, for any scale where the eyes are clearly visible.
Firstly, because the gloss coat enhances the colour.
Secondly, it creates it's own catch-light under any lighting, particularly in the larger scales.
My personal preference is Humbrol enamel gloss.

Cheers,
Andrew

Do you find that Future runs a bit as it is very thin? And do you apply one coat?
Anyone tried the Tamiya gloss straight from jar.....results??

No, not really. It's such a small amount that I pick up with the brush, that there's not enough to run.

Prost!

Yes for all the above reasons, but also...

On larger figures you can gloss the white of the eye first, then it's easy to remove any mistakes when painting in the iris or pupils, and then gloss again when happy.

It also helps if you want run a thinned touch of pale crimson along the inner lower eye edge,
it runs off the brush more easily.

On 90 mm figures I always use a small drop of clear epoxy, especially on the horses. On 54 mm usually only on the horse's eyes. Makes for a super realistic effect.
