Completed Critique Gordon Highland Piper

Greetings all;

It has been a while since I had anything to share from the newly renovated studio, but at long last I would like to share with you my latest conversion of Carl Ried's Gordon Highlander Piper bust. If you are not familiar with the original, everything from the belt up is Carl's original bust, and I added everything from the waist down (O.K. not everything! sheesh). I have to admit to being particularly pleased with the pleating on the back of the kilt. I did this by carving each and every bloody pleat after the putty had cured. In any case please feel free to offer up any comments and or criticisms, as I am sure to have missed a detail or two somewhere along the journey. Next up is Pegaso's new Risslader released in 75mm.

Thanks Sam and Carl. Good call on the wound stripe. It is hard to tell from the photo, but I did do one of the stripes in brass, and the lower one in red.

Amazing work. I can only imagine the amount of time that went into finishing this one. Hard to tell from the photos, but he has got to be massive. Love it.

Thanks Dave. I've been working on this figure since the end of August, but of course you have to take into account all the hours wasted at work when I could have been spending more time on the hobby. The original bust is listed at 1/10 scale, and this measures out at around 250mm tall, so yes, he does take up a fair bit of space in the display cabinet.

Respect and kudos to you Glenn. What a stunning combination of sculpting and painting skills. There are so many busts that would make excellent full figures, and you've chosen one of the best. Awesome work mate.

Thanks Tony, you are right about the number of possibilities. I have one such example on the workbench at the moment in the form of Maurice Corrie's 17th Lancer bust that was released at Euro a few weeks ago. However, I have decided to do this one as a stock bust, as I am getting a bit of a backlog in terms of figures to paint. Good of you to leave a comment, it's always nice to hear from you.

The 17th Lancer would look superb as a full figure. Another bust that should have come with that as an option.

Glenn-congratulations on a stunning piece of work, to be able to sculpt, convert and paint is a rare talent, the animation on this figure is superb. It may take up room but I bet it looks fabulous in the cabinet.
