Just got this one finished up. Youngs 'Hallstatt Period Celt'. Great sculpt with lots of fine detail to paint. Re-made the handle on the dagger as it repeats on the brooch and seemed to clash. Trying a darker style of painting to reflect the ancient feel. I hope!

Cheers

Ron

Nice job! The metallics look great. I also like your wolf pelt. I've got this one on the bench as we speak, so this serves a good inspiration.

What a great paint job! The wings are really stunning.
The history minded figure painter may perhaps notice that this a complete fantasy piece, not a single piece except the women's brooch is Hallstatt period or celtic or whatever. Including facial haircut-all but pure myth.

Beautiful result overall Ron.
I love the darker tones you've chosen.
Wings and the pelt are great.
It really is a great sculpt and you've painted it well.
Cheers,

Thanks for comments guys. Much appreciated. Glad it inspires you Jay. Hans, try as I did, I could not find suitable reference material other than for the dagger handle. If you have any good sources of reference I would be very grateful. Used owl wings for reference.

Cheers,

Ron

Ron, I don't blame the painter, even not the sculptor, but only the author of the concorde book from which this represention is taken. He used references from a 1895 french costume book. If you would take a look for a Hallstatt time warrior with chest armour, please take a look at www.hallstattzeit.de, but regrettably some links on this site are broken. That's the biggest problem with the Hallstatt period, there are very very few publications aimed for a more "general" public, nearly all are for the archaeologist. And the three "best" of them (which are of use for the figure painter) are only available with german text.

But even then it may be not easy to find out the relevant "schemes" for a Hallstatt period celt, despite these are fairly easy ( f.e. Hallstatt C: Sword, no dagger; Hallstatt D: No Sword, but dagger) etc. And: It was not a "warrior" time, there are very very very few warrior graves. A Hallstatt celt will not fulfill the usual bias of a barbarian, broad chested, wild celt.
