WW1 British Gas attack on MG08 team.

The figures used in the scene came from ICM 1/35 figure kits, converted specifically for the diorama some with hornet heads resculpted.

Gas as a form of warfare is a hideous weapon, unstable on the battlefield causing debilitating and horrendous injury and agonising death. Mustard gas being amongst the worst. One positive that came out of mustard gas invention, the scientific realisation that the effect on human white blood and cancerous cells led to what is now chemotherapy, so the legacy of that gas has been to save far more than it ever killed as a weapon.

I wanted to create a small figure diorama, using the elevation of a shallow improvised trench late WW1.

Thank you for the encouragement mate, a pleasure to share my work with this group and welcome feedback to improve and progress. My next work will be something larger and very different time period wise, will share the build as I go on PF.

Another superb diorama Marcus, figures & action compliment each other perfectly.

You're right about the connection between mustard gas & cancer treatment; there are 2 different varieties of mustard agent formulation - sulphur mustard & nitrogen mustard. Of the two, the one from which chemotherapy treatments are derived is nitrogen mustard. It burns its way through cancer cells & tumours.

That MG08 is a beautiful replica - is it box stock, resin, or did you improve the detail slightly?

Thank you Chris, very kind of you. Appreciate the extra detail on the chemotherapy treatment history. For something so hideous as a weapon of war, I’m glad it has had a positive outcome for the human race, fighting cancer.

Very nicely done. Mustard gas killed 90,000 out of a total of 1.3 million gas casualties on all sides. A british philosopher who fought in WW1 thought gas no worse than any of the other weapons used at the time.

Thank you Mike,

No side were innocent in WW1 when it came to gas warfare, thank goodness positives like the Geneva convention and use within medicine have been its legacy.
