I am still working on the Chassuer but I needed a break so I started this amazing Pegaso figure. After ten years of not painting I cannot believe the changes in figures. Now if I could just learn to paint again! Everything I have done so far is with Andrea acrylics and I am beginning to understand why so many of you have switched to acrylics. I am going to use a combination of oils and acrylics for this figure. I will probably use oils on the face as I cannot begin to blend acrylics. Many thanks to Chris for helping me get started with this figure. Please let me know what you think and all advice is greatly appreciated. I will be posting SBS to get your help and feedback.

Look forward to your sbs. Too early to critique at this point with the armor photo being so dark. Keep us posted as you progress.

Guy,
I asked Chris for advice on the armour and he was kind enough to tell me what he used for his build. It is dark but it could be my poor camera skills! I think it will begin to take life over the next few days. I am really looking forward to this. I am also beginning to understand the advantage of using multiple mediums and I am very curious about the usage of inks.
Thanks for the reply.

Rocky I love that figure, do you have references of that kind of uniforms???
keep going!!!! please.

Carlos,
The figure is outstanding in all respects which is the norm for Pegaso. I would recommend Osprey's book Armies of the Carthaginian Wars 265–146 BC. I would highly suggest that you check Vbench for previous builds and ask the experts as they have been extremely helpfull to me!

Update

I started working on the bronze breastplate and greaves today. Once again, thanks to Chris I think is starting out pretty good. The base coat was applied using 4 different shades of acrylic browns, matte black and a pinch of gold. I painted the rest with a mixture of burnt umber and gold oils. This is going to take a while but the detail is worth the effort. The highlights will be painted using pure gold and gold + silver. The shadows will be painted with burnt umber and black. The attached pictures are taken with and without the flash.More tomorrow. Thanks Chris!

He's comming along nicely Rocky. Still kind of hard to see the figure with all the dead space in the photo. If you cropped out the dead space it would make the figure larger. I took the liberty of showing you what I mean by cropping the photo to eliminate the large area around the subject.

I like what you are doing with the armor and may try your method myself. Keep us posted on your progress.

Guy,
Thanks for the tip on the cropping. I will do that tomorrow when I post my next update. Thanks for the compliment on the armour, but the credit belongs to Chris as he has been very kind to help me with it. The only thing I left out was the use of printers ink. I am an old dog and that is a new trick!

Don't feel bad Rocky. I have yet to try printers Inks.......and I have them.

Actually I do not feel that bad. I bought the entire 60+ colors of Andrea acrylics and probably 20 tubes of new oil paints! I have been in the modelling hobby from the time I was seven years of age ( Im 46 now) at least from time to time. I can tell you that I have close to 60 unstarted kits and about 6 in various stages of completion from aircraft, ships, auto's, motorcycles, a boatload of WWII kits and now 2 figures! I have a 1/6 Fokker under construction, 1/8 Bugatti, 1/25 P-38, 1/12 Ferrai F-1 and the yet undisclosed 1/6 Dick Winters. Fortunately, I have a large room with an excellent paintbooth, a lathe and many other toys that are under-utilized. I am quite happy to say that PF is the best forum for a modeler. This is the one place that a hobby can transcend political and cultural beliefs. I love this place!
Just my 2 cents.

A little more progress today. I did a couple of light washes, started the bronze highlights and started the leather. I believe I am starting to get the hang of this again, but let me know what you think.
BTW Guy, thanks for the cropping tip!

The armor is looking good Rocky. I like the way it is turning out.

Thanks Guy, I am pretty happy with it as well. It needs more work but I am really getting into this. I have decided to paint his face with oils as I have been practicing on a couple of old heads from the parts box. My next big decision is which Pegaso to start next? I have a few on the shelf and I am so energized that I want to start another one while waiting on the paint to dry!

I know the feeling Rocky. Thats how many of us have 8 figures or more in progress. You can always have a figure to work on for the time you have allowed.

Guy, here is my dilemma, that may not be the correct word! I have these on the shelf. Which one do you people recommend to start?
http://www.pegasomodels.com/details_en.asp?code=90-037 Very tempting
http://www.pegasomodels.com/details_en.asp?code=75-022 My favorite
http://www.pegasomodels.com/details_en.asp?code=90-902 A long story
http://www.pegasomodels.com/details_en.asp?code=75-025 Probably my best bet
http://www.pegasomodels.com/details_en.asp?code=75-028 The whites scare me!
I have more but this is my short list.

I have more but this is my short list.

I always go with my favorite. I also have this figure in the Pegaso stack and it cries out to be painted.

I always do my mounted figures separtly and consider them a major project I work on while working on others. I usually do 1 or 2 mounted a year.

My current mounted project is 2 mounted mountain men and 4 pack horses all to go on the same base. About a 2 year project. I have all the pine trees made and now am looking for the base. One of the Mountain Men will be converted, the other stock. I work on the conversion out in the garage on cool days as I don't have A/C there and ther's alot of cutting and sanding involved.
