Just acquired. I’ve never seen a kit like this.

Was surprised to see no horse included, but the saddle and all horse furniture are there (see photos).

Original staples in place; kit has not been opened.

Also interesting, the kit is in a foot-figure bag with the foot figure-size header card and not the usual larger bag and header card for mounted kits.

Is this an “economy” kit they put out, or did they just forget to put the horse in?

And, yes, I will build it. :)

I had an Hussar Officer kit (#632), bought in 2012 second-hand in the USA from a seller on EBay, still sealed with the original staples; as with your Scots Grey, it was a surprise to find a mounted figure in the smaller packet with the saddlecloth etc but without the horse; I opened it, gazed at the contents, then sold it in 2015, with a horse added in a zip-lock bag. I'm not convinced that your kit and mine were examples of a QA issue, nor that they were intended to be foot figures. Neither the Hussars nor the Scots Greys were shown in the catalogues as being available dismounted - although the Inniskilling Dragoons and several of the "HIST COLLECTION" range (issued in the standard packet with orange/white header, and renumbered, e.g. Hi.8 British 13th Light Dragoon became #804) were released as foot figure options. I would guess that a possible explanation is that the US distributor intended for the local hobby store to supply the customer a horse, selected from the various head & halves combinations, to complete their chosen kit? Just a theory, it may have been a short-term sales strategy if there weren't many such examples of these kits?

Mark, this had crossed my mind. I thought packing arrow at first, but the use of a standard foot figure small bag and small header card does seem deliberate. And you had a similar example. It’s interesting (at least to us… lol).

I’d planed to make this my first mounted kit… but now I am thinking I will keep it sealed for a bit and, instead, I will pull the parts for a Scots Grey from my spares instead.
