I have been tinkering with this for about a month now, I am still not comfortable doing mounted figures, the figure is fine the horse is another story.

So rather than keeping the builds to myself I will blog this build, though it will be a longer, slower project than most that can run alongside whatever else I am doing.

The vignette will be three Cuirassiers, a General, a Trooper and a Trumpeter all in the charge. The horses are all balanced on one leg so I have had to implant a heavy weight metal support in each.

Each horse has also been widened somewhat as Historex horses can lack girth especially for heavy cavalry mounts. This had lead to the saddles needing to be adjusted to fit, the molded on head tack on each horse was removed and replaced with new stuff made from wine bottle foil.

All these adjustments have necessitated some rebuilding, especially the strengthened legs also where the neck meets the body and around the face where the detail was removed.

Each horse has had its mane and tail built from various materials like wire, paper & Magicsculpt before coating them with liquid plastic gloup and the having detail added with a pyrogravure.

So this is where I am now;

The base is already put together, well I needed to know if they would all fit!

Now all I have to do is make three figures.

Many thanks Kev, no specific reference as in a painting etc, the poses are all from my imagination. I have a wealth of images on Pintrest and the Osprey book to keep me historically correct.

Wow, this is going to be good.
As you've mentioned Heavy metal, I trust your be listening to Sabaton, while modelling. :D

Malc

Cheers Malc, jumping in at the deep end on this one, I have had Sabaton on, did you know they are touring I the UK next year! Also been modelling to Evanescence and The Pretty Reckless, might need some AC/DC and Iron Maiden to progress!

The lack of horse girth with Historex horses has long been recognised. Wine bottle foil is also a well known substitute of plasticard or similar. I use pewter sheet, but what works, works!.

I shall look forwards to your progress.

Mike

Dear Simon,
an excellent start of what is going to be a large and dramatic project. I really like cuirassiers so I am following with interest. I am constantly amazed at your output!
Kind regards,
Paul

Neil, Bran, Mike, Paul, Phil and Pete. Many thanks gentlemen, I hope the projects picks up from today's calamitous start, I dropped a scalpel from my desk, no biggy I often drop things, yeah but I was bare foot! Had my wife putting a tissue on it and standing on my foot to apply pressure, only a small cut but I am on blood thinners, guess I'm mopping the floor later.

Hoping this project will get me over my trepidation of modelling and painting horses and as for what Regiment, not actually planned that far head yet but I want a colourful trumpeter, red or yellow so that narrows it down a bit.

Cheers Simon

You already know what I think Simon as I have already told you on FB.Definitely following this.
