I hope you are doing well and that the accident was not too serious with the blood thinners you are taking....

I'm interested to hear that lack of girth on Historex horses is a recognised issue. I built a WWI French cuirassier using Historex parts and thought the horse looked a bit undersized.

You don't do things by half, looking good on the nags front, this will be epic.

Cheers Bob, I hope it will be epic at the moment it sounds like a lot of work but if this doesn't get me over my trepidation regarding horses nothing will!

Cheers Simon

Many thanks Bran no the accident wasn't serious just a small cut but it did bleed a lot, the blood thinners are for high blood pressure and make even the slightest cut bleed. It's more annoying than anything else, oh the joys of getting old.

Hi Stephen, yes built from the packet Historex horses are rather skinny especially when trying to depict war horses. I add a piece of platicard to one half trimmed to size to add that little bit extra, it seems to do the trick, can't remember the exact gauge of the card but about a millimeter or so seems about right. Would love to see the WWI figure.

Nap

It will teach me to wear slippers at least at my desk!

Cheers Simon

Simon, you seem to be a glutton for punishment [in all directions - I'm too on the old 'thinners' so know what it's like with sharp items!]. That said, this looks a really dramatic diorama [?] and I feel quite 'slovenly' with my 'out of the box' busts, reading the amount of work that is required just to get the horses the way you want and know how they should be. This is one that I will be watching and enjoying. All the best.

Kim

Cheers Kim, yeah the blood thinners are a pain, forever cutting my fingers and getting blood everywhere, so thank goodness for superglue.

I have plenty of time on my hands as I can't do much these days so I get to the bench as often as I like. Still trying to build confidence with horses, if this doesn't do it I don't know what will!

Managed to make a start on the General leading his Brigade into battle.

I wanted to change the pose of the legs slightly as he is astride a galloping horse and have the cuffs of his boots stood out from the leg rather than molded on.

The first attempt was a bit if a failure, I tried using paper.

So this was all scraped off and I used thin plasticard. The first stage was to sand the top ends of the boots off so there was plenty of room to firmly secure the plasticard.

I gave myself plenty of extra card to trim back once the glue had dried. It looks to have worked quite well, just need some filling and sanding to hide the joins.

Next I can get to work adding the torso, there is a small wedge in place plastic at the waist so the torso can be posed leaning forward and will need a tilt to the left as he holds his sword at arms length ready to strike the enemy.

Cheers Simon

Loving the progress, all looking good.
This is going to be epic.

Malc

Cheers Malc, going to be a break in progress though. Getting ready for another European road trip to Leuven to see the youngest, also going to visit Brussels so I'm hoping to sneak off to the Belgian Army Museum, beats being wheeled around the streets in my wheel chair!

Cheers Simon
