Completed Critique Hector of Troy

Hi fellow Planeteers,

This is my latest bust that I have just finished. It is Hector from the movie "Troy", that comes from Young Miniatures. If you have seen the box art to this figure you may agree with me that for a Prince, Hectors armour seems a bit on the drab side. So I decided to spruce him up a bit, considering that he is a Royal. I believe that this armour is a bit more interesting than just boring old silver plates. this is just my opinion of course and I welcome as always, any comments.

Really like the armour , looks a lot better than the box art , like the way you have done the helmet , the colours that you have chosen throughout all seem to compliment each other .

The shield edge looks very nicely done , not too much but not understated .

Now how did you deal with the armour then ?

That's such an improvement on the box art you have got me wanting to have a go at it . I think the shield design is out standing . Just sort of jumping of topic , I have just finished reading a new novel about the fall of Troy . In it Hector leads an elite troop called the Horse , who work on the out side of the walls and living in the hills striking fast were ever than can at the Greeks , eventually they are ambushed and slaughtered to a man ,then the Greeks strip off all the armour and pose as the Horse Troop , galloping towards the gates of Troy as if being pursude by the enemy the gates are open for them and so ends Troy . Which sounds a whole lot better than some wooden thing left on the beach , which brings me back to the shield , great stuff!!

Thank you all for your comments guys. I really appreciate it. Just to let you know, I have repaired the pommel at the top of his helmet as it was somewhat out of line when I took the pics.

In answer to Naps question about how the armour was painted.
1. Undercoat in white car primer. This is good for adhesion of acrylic paints as acrylic will not bond with the resin. I then use Citidel and Games Workshop acrylics.
2. The whole of the armour was then painted in chaos black acrylic, taking care to get in each nook and cranny. A couple of coats are needed for this.
3. There are three vertical rows of square armour pieces on each side of his body. Each square was painted individually in mithril silver acrylic, leaving one vertical line of squares in the centre row painted in blood red acrylic.
4. When dry I gave the whole armour a wash of lamp black oil, really watered down with thinners, allowing the thinned down oil to get into each and every corner.
5. When completely dry I used acrylic burnished gold to carefully paint the edges of each square and the little bolts inside them. This really brings out the details in each square piece of armour. On the red squares I used burnished gold to get the same effect.
6. The chestplates were painted individually using dwarf bronze and edging was painted in mithril silver.
7. The shoulder straps were painted first in acrylic then oils to give them a different look for each. The sleeves were painted in oils using titanium white mixed with a little naples yellow to give a creamy look then the shadows were put in using a little indian red.
