Hi All,

I like to give this very beautiful 75mm Pegaso Hidatsa Warrior a go in the near future.

Because this is a figure of a time period which is completely out of my main ancient history interest, I lack reference material. So I would like to call on you in providing me with some documentation on this native American tribe.

What I need most is pictorial evidence of the clothing and the way this was adorned with paint or bead work. I already have found some general history links on the internet, but pictorial information is seemingly hard to find.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Johan,
Native Americans, the second my passion with the Napoleonic uniforms, but less complicated as costumes. Hidatsa or Minnetaree, or Minatarre, a Siouan family tribe, very connected with Mandans and Arikara, living in North Dakota, along the upper Missouri river. Their dress was very similar to the Plains tribes, so a buckskin shirt, often beaded, a breechcloth, the leggings, they also often beaded, moccasins and a bison skin as blanket for the cold days. For the painting you can see the four wiews on the Pegaso site, even if my friend Danilo has painted the bison skin very rich (and difficult), it seems the blanket of Mato Tope Mandan great chief, or even more rich. However, in the sites described by Zlobov there are some Hidatsa shirts, and the bison skin dressed by Two Ravens, as drawn by Karl Bodmer, a Swiss painter, who visited various Native villages, when he was 24 years old, executing many drawings. I put here two drawings of Addih Hiddish (with the cap) and Péhriska-Rúhpa (Two Ravens) made by Bodmer about 1830.
Best regards
Marcello
