Hi guys ,

Following on from the V bench here

http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/heroes-all-a-ww2-tribute-trio-of-busts.77534/

This was a project between myself and the biscuit eating monster aka Jimbo , in which we wanted to pay tribute to the often unsung heroes on the home front.

Air Raid Wardens
The Civil Defence ladies
The Fire service

As a ex fireman of 30 years service that subject was very close to Jim's thoughts , knowing what he went through and saw I can only imagine what it was like in WW2.

The Lady ...well they provided many services , vital to the home front ranging from serving in mobile canteens to driving fire vehicles and much more

The Warden was my tribute to my grandfather who served both in Home Guard and as a warden , I also wanted to have some ribbons on him so he has his WW1 ones

The groundwork and bust conversion was done with flair by Jimbo , I painted the busts and the little doll in amongst the rubble......reminding us that children also suffered so much.

We also added a newspaper which shows the bombings in London and 13 other places as its headline

Thanks for following on V Bench and for looking in

Will there be more ...most certainly YES ( that sobbing sound is Jimbo!!!....lol)

A very big personal thanks to Jimbo for his input

If anyone is going to the IPMS Salisbury Show on the 4th June it will be there ..hopefully with Jimbo as well.

Thanks for looking in

Cracking job both of you. As you know I like a model that tells a story and all the additional elements contribute perfectly. Great to see the Civil Defence Girl, whose contribution is often overlooked, front and centre.
It's very fine work (y)
Cheers

Hi Guys,

What can I say except THANK YOU on behalf of us both it's made our work on these pieces all worthwhile .....an enjoyable project and it looks even better in true size!

The conversions Jimbo did on the busts are great and also his basework ...I thought of the doll!....had fun googling Toy Doll though ...Phorrr!....lol

As folk have said its a tribute to the unsung heroes

Answering a few points ......

Roger ...no McVities were harmed during this operation ...only Hob Nobs and kitkats ...Yum

Paul ..Yeah I agree base brilliant but painting ...might use a smaller than 6" flat next time !

Del...Very much telling a story as you said the CD girl is very much to the front ...and Jimbo trimmed her down in a couple of areas as well...lol

Nick ..grumpy warden........it's based on my grandfather ..lol ...he loved shouting when seeing a chink of light coming out a window .....even when I was a wee lad !

Suffice to say ther will be another idea congrats to a forum near you soon

Happy modelling ..whatever you have on the bench
