When painting horizontal stripes is it best to shade and highlight each stripe, individually or where the folds are on the trousers? Obviously the stripes need tidying up, but I think that you will get the idea.
Thanks,
Carl.

Carl what i do and i think its a matter of personal state is to try to achieve more pronounced contrast on the base color(that whould be the light brown in this case) and then paint and highlight the stripes where the folds are. Double the trouble you might say but it creates quite a convincing optical illusion.

For stripes this broad I do think you have to. For thinner stripes you can get away with doing less (or even none at all) but with wider stripes highlighting and shading them just as you would if they were the only colour seems the only way to go, otherwise they'll look wrong.
