How big is your grey army?

About 500 in all scales and several busts. Still, seeing as a gypsy palmreader told me the other day that I will live to be 247 years old before I die, I'm not too worried about not finding the time to paint them all. :)
That just leaves the problem of trying to find some additional years to build&paint the 250+ 1/32 aircraft and 1/35 armour kits I also have...

I took a look and to my surprise, there are´nt so much figures as I thought. Fiveteen 90 - 120 mm, ca. 40 54 mm and around 300 flats. But in my case, there is a Grey Navy and a Grey Airforce too on the shelf. Oh my, think I have to be 150 Years old, to build and paint all these things.
Funny!

Cheers Thomas

Depends if my wife is reading this or not. If she is then not many!!.....as long as the total doesn't exceed her shoe collection, I should be able to defend myself;). In reality, probably around 140 (busts/54mm/75mm). Now if I ever act on my 'To buy' wish list then.....to infinity and beyond:whistle:

I have always felt the figure painting hobby consists of 2 hobbies for most of us. 1. Painting figures and 2. collecting kits. My gray army is down to about 450 kits now. All scales both figure and busts. I keep an inventory spreadsheet of what I have for insurance purposes.

Wow, I really don't feel so out of control anymore. I've only got 10 in my official grey army, another four with at least some paint on them. I'd like to keep my grey army down to what I can paint in a year... but since that's about 6 figures I'm a little on the high side. I tell myself any more than that and I'm only allowed to buy a figure if it's a good deal. Since I completed my last figure I've already bought 5 kits... I may need to rethink my purchasing philosophy. How about I can only buy a figure if it's a REALLY good deal... yeah, that should work.

I must have too many other hobbies that chip away at my "Secret Squirrel Cash Stash". I'd have to get 3 more jobs, sell most of my favorite organs, turn over the wife and son to white slave traders and accellerate my annual bank robbery schedule to even get close to some of these massive grey army collections.
The financial commitment required to build these collections is mindboggling. Mind you, if I did get close to some of these numbers, my workspace would become much bigger as the old lady would certainly find other living arrangements before too long:sneaky:

Makes ya think don't it?

Hi Mary and Guys ,

I can honestly say I am not sure. I think it is now in the range of about 25 kits if that. I just did a major cull of lots of stuff and sold it off on the e-Bay. So a lot of my gray army may now be your gray army.

I have to admit that there is a long time that I have not bought a figure. In the last 7-8 years I have only buy one bust (of young miniatures). So I'm controlling myself. My greey army is however quite big. I think that I have about 100 kits (mostly german of WW2). Beside, I have also about 100 armour kits (tanks, and so on). So even if I improve my speed painting by 10 or 15 I would have things to do for my whole life ...

I have 16 pieces (10 Métal Modèles, 1 Elite Miniaturas, 1 Romeo Models, 2 Pegaso Models, 2 Art Girona) and trying to refrain from purchasing in excess of my production rate. I have recently got rid of a couple of them, which I knew I would not touch before years.

You guys are going to laugh at me...I now have NINE figures in my grey army waiting to be painted:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: and I haven't decided to stop yet!
Is yours out of control?

Mary

Yes, Mary, I am laughing! Only 9?! You have a lot of catching up to do. ;)

I'd say I have a gray battallion, around 500 unpainted or unfinished figures, kits or castings.

Add to that a scale model stash of around 200 kits. Both modest, perhaps, compared to many others.

Keep plugging away! You'll soon have a bigger stash, it happens to us all.

Prost!

Well I have maybe, about 200 kits. When I started the hobby 7 years ago.. I told myself that I would only
buy what I paint. No stashing for the future. Buy.... then paint.... buy... then paint. Well it has not
worked out that way.. I did a spread sheet too.. but thought that was silly..but I see many of you do that,
so I may go back and re-inventory my stash. Now everytime I buy a kit my husband says.. don't you
have enough and are you going to paint it... I say.. no.. just collecting because I like the kit. .. Just kidding...
NOW... don't get me started on bases.. that is my HUGE weakness. I think I have more bases than kits ..

3 JMD WW1 untouched, 4 Young's bust in various stages of completion and an Imperial gallery piece. I keep trying to reduce mine at shows, but inevitable end up adding to it at said shows.

OMG.. 4 cabinets Guy. WOW and I thought I was bad.
I also told myself when I started.. 2 things.... well I was 'taught' this one... finish a figure before
moving on to the next... but it sounds like you guys can do several at a time.. and even may put
it on the "back burner". Also.. don't have unfinished ones.. I try to do that. I find myself now
building up kits and having them ready to prime.. sometimes it's fun to build when painting gets
a bit much.
