Maybe the Stars and Stripes should be banned because the past treatment of native tribes may offend some people. Ban the Union Jack because aggressive colonization in the 1800s may offend some people. Ban the Tri-colour... well obviously Napoleon was a bad cat. The Iron Cross or Knight's Cross was an award for courage and valour for over a hundred years before the Reich put a stink on it that tarnished the symbol forever more... it's now connected with Nazism not valour, how sad. Maybe we ban the crucifix because of the Inquisition.

You're too late.....

Personally, The Bonnie Blue Flag has always been one of my favourite songs(y). Am I politically incorrect:(?
I won't put my name down because I fear PC retribution:p.

Gary this is the Bonnie Blue,........so you can continue to hum away to that one.

Unsurprisingly, on both shores of the Atlantic, politic correctness and smothering the language with euphemisms is taking rather ridiculous forms. Surely, if the displaying of the Confederate flag is a major problem that has to mean everything else is going absolutely perfect and all is well in the US of A paradise. Same goes for the old continent, where correct speech means remembering what to call your darker-skinned neighbor or your wheelchair bound compatriot, but of course we also live in paradise!
What to do when a gun-toting weirdo dressed as the pope or POTUS goes on a shooting spree? Erase them and all their symbols and flags from all images? Smells of stalinism to me. The banning of whatever symbol or flag will never erase extremist or criminal thought or behaviour.
cheers,
Piet

Political Correctness is the new facism.

Is it me, or is it only all the 'liberals' who seem hell-bent on banning everything?

And who are these people anyway?

As I read it, and if my understanding is correct, the Southern Cross flag as we've come to understand it wasn't nearly used as widely as we imagine during the conflict itself.

Be careful of terms like liberal. I consider myself one because here in Canada you can vote Bushite Conservative, Socialist New Democrat or middle of the road Liberal. I am happy to be camped in the middle of polarizing right and left. In some countries, liberal is a tag used to deride people. It is frequently classed with elite and intellectual. Who recalls when it was good to be elite and smart? There are folk on both sides if the political spectrum who are ready and willing to make others tow the line of their own beliefs.

A number of years ago the Director of Education is Strathclyde Regional Council sent a memo to all managers stating that the council had decided that in future all documentation should use the term 'first' name and not Christian name. He then required us to sign to indicate we'd received and read the missive. Emphasising that we must sign our full name including Christian name ....... he jumped up a good few rungs in our estimation

If your name was Christian, was a name change required? But seriously what a muppet!

And who are these people anyway?

One wonders if they are people at all...
At times I feel it is very disturbing to think about things like political correctness, what does it mean anyway? If memory serves me right, politics can be defined as the way of expressing different interests and opinions of the various groups composing the civilian society , but how can one be "correctly" differing from anyone's opinion ? If it isn't a completely meaningless expression, it smacks of some looming dark "ism",call it fascism or stalinism or whatever...
