Just started a new project after finishing the CGS Imperial Guard bust and my interest remains with French Napoleonic. This time the 1/12 scale bust from Grenadier Miniatures sculpted by Moz Corry. Picked this cracking litttle sculpt up at Euro but I have decided to make some subltle changes to suit my painting needs. The sculpt depicts the summer Nankeen worn over the waistcoat which would be white in colour with the cap and waistcoat denoting the particular regiment colours. I wanted to add a little more colour into the piece and have chosen to paint the Nankeen as a Dolman. With that in mind I have added some pronounced edging braid to the front of the Nankeen and around the collar to make it more like a Dolman. i have chosen the 5th Regiment with sky blue Dolman, red waistcoat, sky blue/white cap all with yellow braid. The Lucien Rousselot book was used for reference.

Here are my progress shots showing a days work.

First shows the unaltered bust, then the added detail in magic sculpt. Airbrush was used as pre-highlighting over Jo Sonja carbon black. The face has been done all in Jo Sonja and the Dolman has had the preliminary work done again in JS.

Thanks for looking.

Very well painted face! I like this bust too but don't like painting white all that much so would probably do the same. The blue looks a good shade, not too light (it was a lightish mid blue colour as you've painted).

There is no muscle mass at the hands of all the photos. Perhaps the sculptor was not paid attention to this.
