This, is not turning out.

I think I've over worked it, the paint isn't laying worth a hoot. It looks ok from a distance but, when you get closer...bleh.

I know, larger scale, but I would like to finish this. So, if you have any advice short of throwing into the tub of 409 and do over, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks as always
Steve

Hey Steve,

Which part are you not happy with the most? I think it is looking ok but I don't have much knowledge on these sort of things.

Steve good to see someone is painting something a little different.
It looks like to me that maybe the primer may have gone on your figure a little heavy or it may have dried sort of glossy. This might cause it not to have enough tooth on the surface for the paint to grab hold of. It looks like your painting in oils but its kind of hard to tell from the photo. I now paint in acrylics for health reasons but sometimes the same thing can happen to the acrylics, It makes the paint seem not to go on right. I'm telling you this because it has happened to me. Unfortunately the only solution I have found is to strip the figure down to the bare metal or resin and start over again. Sorry if I couldn't be of more help. Just keep on painting!

It doesn't look as bad as you may think.

Is it painted in oils? The only thing I can find is that it may be too "overblended". In that scale (I assume 25mm?) it's hard to use oils. I generally use acrylics as they are easier to control in such small quantities.

Hey everyone!

Yes the figure has been primed, I used Floquil figure primer. I am using oils rather than acrylics. Perhaps, if I'm to continues I shouild switch to acrylics. I'm wanting to achieve a finish like Gilbert's where there is a smooth yet noticable transition between the color shades. I guess that's what I was hoping to glean from everyone, how to achieve that. I've been wondering if it may be that I'm doing wrong. If maybe I've been rushing the shades or perhaps waiting too long...

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate it, I really do.

Best Wishes
Steve
