Brilliant idea fellas! I would be happy to participate with whatever figure was chosen. I think part of the challenge for me would be to paint a genre and manufacturer that I wouldnt usually in order to break from the comfort zone and learn along the way. Looking forward to it already!

It seems that the idea is picking up steam! as an aside, in the future, maybe a very broad theme, say "chainmail", or "white", or maybe some other central idea....

It would be fun, in the end, to see how each person approaches a specific challenge(such as whites, or chainmail, or gold lace, etc etc...)

Ok Guys

Here's my three suggestions - all pretty popular I think

Romeo's Templar - an exercise in white

RM-54-056_1.jpg

Romeo's Sicilian Hoplite - bronze and shield motif will be interesting

RM2054-55_1.jpg

and last but by no means least, Pegaso's "Sans Culotte" - a simple figure that will come out differently with every paint job

54-220_1.jpg

Now I'm waiting for the result :)

Cheers all

Phil

I'm all for it guys... I don't mind what figure it is. It's about time i was shaken out of my comfort zone. just let me know what and when.....

Hii Guys

These are my choices unfortunately I couldn’t get it down below 5 so had to put them all up.

Pick a date, figure and guidleine and go with it. Decision by committee will get you 3 months of debate, excuses and thousands of suggestions. Those that can/want to participate will, those that can't/don't want to can jump on the next one or in this one should they cange their mind.

In the past when I've seen this type of thing in a Group Build/Sculpt Jam/Campaign... there is about a 60% drop out, failure to finish rate so expect some to drop out despite their starting enthusiasm.

This is a very cool ideal and I'll be on board as soon as you settle on something. With all the choices that everyone is putting up, I forsee plenty of these down the road.

As for skill level concerns, what better way to break out of a slump or mold or to inspire creativity outside the comfort zone by trying something with a challenge. I don't think anyone will pay small children to throw rocks at your house should you not be able to paint crisp tartans or your heraldic blazonry does not meet exacting artistic standards. Without challenge we don't progress.

The idea of not showing the work till the finished product is a little counter to the title of Public Workshop. Workshop sort of implies work in progress. Sort of a witness to ongoing endeavors. While I see advantages and disadvantages to this, I'm wth the "do it and see the results" crowd. It keeps the creativity personal and doesn't influence, nor stifle creativity. If the concern is for those that may be self conscience of their abilities or skill levels, there is nothing quicker than them witnessing one of the "masters" to compare their work, to kill the momentum. There are plenty of SBS opportunities after the fact or parallel to this type of thing. Why not make it a figure "Christmas" and wait to open the packages on Christmas Day. iow, show your finished work at the end.

As for a competition angle, I'm not so hot on that idea simply because of the disparity of photo skills and quality from everyone. It would be a shame to discount someones hard work and superb workmanship simply because they couldn't/didn't take a decent studio shot. There is something to say though for the simplicity of seeing 1 figure done 15 ways just to be able to see how others materialize thier vision of a subject.

Brilliant idea, glad you proposed it and even happier to see the response from everyone.

I echo the views-great idea.
Hopefully this would make me get the kick up the backside I need.

Count me in.

graham

Should/will there (if we can get this off the ground) be any constraints as to painting or conversions? I personally don't think someone should be limited to just what's included in the box. Your thoughts?

Jim Patrick

OK guys, what's next? Let's "strike while the iron's hot" or the momentum will die. No committee, set up the poll ASAP, pick the figure, hope that Red Lancers is up, and go for it!
Cheers!

One more thing, the exhibit should be posted COMPLETE. No piecemeal postings.

Dear All guys friend ,brothers ,Planeteers !!!!!!!! HELOOOOOOOOOOOOO

This is an awsome fedback on the idea and i am really proud that so many guys are willing to participate in this .

I will post some definitions on the questions that were multiply asked , and pleae take care in reading, cause many ofthem werealready described and answered inthe initial post but maybe it wastoo hot to read it slowly !!! LOL

1. This is not a Competition. This is a fun, company painting of the same figure , from friends around the world , that possibly would never have the option tomeet in one place

2. On some people's objections for the difficulty of the figures . Ar first the figure is not yet picked. All participants can propose their idieas , and the most wanted figure will be decided topainted . Thats all !!! We just count the times that a figure was proposed and we paint it . So Simple !

3.As Jim pointed there will be no limitation and restriction to the creativity and fantasy of the participants. Since there is no competition, and no strict rules judging, we can think out of the square and use imagination . I remember a Crimea figure of MVGils painted in a German splinter camo of WWII. Even this kind of alternations will be allowed and looked for. But i think that we shouldnt do major pose or figure parts convertions cause then it will be a different figure. Thats just my idea. You propose and we decide in common . Also Groundowrk and generic setup and presentation is totally free, but cannot include other figures than the selected one . WE DO IT FOR FUN AND RELAX , NOT STRESS

4. The time willl be also picked by public demand . That means that all people that will participate , along with their figure choices, or seperate if they dont need to pick figures will suggest the time period. We sum these up and divide by the number of the participants and get the average time . I think thats fair and purely democratic !!

5. There is NO and will be NO comitee of any kind , since as i told there is no competition but , friends fun . So just Kisifer and me will try to follow all posts one by one answer the questions and try to keep the line going. Thats all. All propositions are to be discussed. But My idea is to keep it as simple as it was described , so we dont loose the point of fun

6. Taking part on this group painting, has the risk to be painting a figure that you already have painted . For example figures like the Sans Culotte or Romeio's Hoplite , i already have painted. But i dont care. If all friends decide these, i will paint , in a different setting , cause it willbe fun. and also maybe i get topaint them better than the first time. So thats the spirit . Not to think for this under the usual mind restrictions that we suffer for competitions.

7. Picking up the figure. As many guys suggested we can get this running as the steam is up and the iron is burning . So i would suggest that we can leave all days till weekend for decisions and suggestions and on Monday 22 of May we finalize the figure picking ,the time frame and all other details to be sorted. T

hen we do a new Post for the Peoples Fun Painting (PFP) if we could name it like that or anything else, and in this post , will be fun that people , who participate wil post their progress...but ..without pictures . Like , "i bought the figure and i primed it". "I am waiting some materials for the groundwork ", or anything they like us to know.

Also we would answer through this any questions that might occur during the time of the happening . and then the next day of the ending date in this post will happen a rain of posts as everyone will post his 3 pictures of the figure . imagine to have inthe same day some 30-40 same figurepaintingsfrom different people all over the world. I think it will be magic!!!!

So guys please take care to decide in the following days your participation , and to suggest figures, timeframe, and anything else youmight like . This is your chance to paint totally free and relaxed

Costas

I'm in! I prefer larger scale figures but have had the itch to do a 54mm. I'm leaning towards Seil's Ladschenkt but will post my suggestions over the weekend.

Best to all,

Costas.... GREAT IDEA... Just sounds like fun!

Hi Costas and Xenofon,my dear friends from Greece  !
That's an AWESOME idea that you guys have thought-up to get the "planeteers" working together on a common project !!! WELL DONE !!! Do count me in on this one; I think that it will really be nice to have a common goal for all to achieve :) . I'm for the Sans Culotte figure or the Crusader knight that Steve Walks and Gino proposed. Whatever the outcome, my friends, I'll be looking forward to the "GREAT ADVENTURE" !!! Cheers !
Kenneth.

Thanks a lot for your participation Engin and Kevin. We wait for your suggestions soon.. so me and Costas can announce on Money morning which figure will be the chosen one :) Suggestions suggestions suggestions :) Fun fun fun!!!!!!!!
Kenneth good to see you here as well my friend. I'm 100% sure that we all have lots of fun.
Wait all till we create the Peoples Fun Painting (PFP) post, where we gonna start teasing each other.. without showing our works... Lots of fun on the way.. Hang on tight.. and don't miss it.

Xenofon
