I've been using the name Forté for years (around 25 so far). Originally I used it for djing but then used it on forums and Facebook too. It's kind of stuck though it's more by force of habit.

My linked Facebook profile has my real name on and I'm always making sure that if I'll be attending a show that my profile photo is of me. On here it's usually my most recently finished painting.

Hi Guys

Interesting thread personally I have my interest and last name in napoleonpeart ...suppose it should really be a picture of the great man himself or maybe a napoleonc biscuit !..lol

As for avatar ...mainly because of a standing joke about me liking biscuits .....especially at Jimbo's so went for that ....

I will however ALWAYS change it during rememberance in November as a tribute and respect to our brave armed forces ...and then put it back after .

Keith's idea of adding country is good IMO

My nickname relates to what I do for a living, and my avatar is my late pal Morris.

I sign all of my posts with my real (first) name and my location (country) can be found in my profile.

Guys on here who also know me in the real world know more, and at shows I've been known to wear a pF badge with both my name and my nickname (when I don't forget to take it with me). But being the victim of C.C. fraud a few years back made me much more circumspect about what information I put out there on open internet forums that can be accessed by literally anyone.

I like the idea of adding country or city where you live. I find it interesting . On some of the threads I post a comment or start , it's amazing where people are at. I Know most have it on their profile but adding it up front would be great

My avatar pics are from 17th century portraits. I change it from time to time as there are many subjects to choose from.

I love  the clothing style. Of the extremely 'rich, powerful and noble' that gathered at court needless to say. By comparison: the rifraf looked like sh.t. No money = no clothes.

For that reason I also loved Richard Lester's 'Three Musketeers' with Michael York and Oliver (hicups:wacky: ) Reed and Charlton Heston as Cardinal Richelieu. The clothing in that movie is as accurate as one can get. It looks like a 17th century painting. All the remakes are crap in that respect.

A lot of 17th century figures (there aren't that many) are crappy too in the sartorial sense of the word. United Empire Miniatures is an exception to the overall situation with their 120 mm Mousquetaire and Sir Richard Willys. The first looks like he walked away from a painting by Le Meissonier and the second is actually based on a comtemporary protrait. Although Ferrer Dalmau's excellent work also seems to have inspired some Spanish sculptors.

For my forum name I looked towards Prussia for inspiration: the battle of Rossbach on the 5th of november 1757 during the Seven Years' War (1756–1763).

But other then that I appear under my own name on the forum. Last week I even had a (toilet)selfie for my avatar pic for a few days! The same that I use on Facebook.

Paul

Ps: I suppose there is some kind of Freudian relation between me and my preference for 17th century portraits. Haven't found out what and how though;)

My PF name is my own. As my interest is Russian/Soviet figures the obvious avatar for me was a Russian General, Stalin just happened to be the first one that showed up.
At shows I usually wear a polo shirt with either Red Tom on it or my regimental badge. My new one from an IPMS group has my full name on. I will be obtaining one of the new PF badges.

Thank goodness ...... NOW I can avoid you :D

I would support the use of Organic free range low carbon Avatars.
Honestly?

I just don't care, and I don't think it matters.
It has been a joy to have been introduced to and meet
many of you from here in reality at shows, and some great friendships have been reinforced.

But......had I known how ugly you ALL are before I had met you
I would probably would have just avoided the lot of ya:D

P rimadonna.

The avatar is a picture of me taken incognito on Capri. What isn't obvious is the unseen hand on the
other end of the paintbrush was Sophia Loren's. The false whiskers were her idea as a ruse to help me
escape a whole mob of figure painting groupies - led jointly by Juliette Binoche and Olga Kurylenko,
and I only just escaped with my trousers ! Sometimes anonymity is useful - it's a facet of this hobby that
perhaps some don't realise ...... what's that ? .... right ..... sorry guys. it's time for my medication.

That's the trouble living at the far end of the country,.......easy to reflect, fantasise and daydream:LOL: Alan
.

Hark at you hiding behind a toll bridge in the land beyond the elvish marches where the sun do hide behind the mountains till the cows want to go out in the morning.
I went on Google maps for your adress Alan .....it just said
"Here be dragons.... and single ladies...Lush"

Umm, the Norfolk/Suffolk Mountain Rescue team don't have much to do in these parts, mate, and that's a fact. There's actually a little Red Dragon sitting on the doorstep here, guarding an egg, courtesy of my granddaughter.:D

The nickname thing is common on forums. I see the benefit of real names, though I feel like if someone wants to know they can always just ask.

Of more use would be listing the location for everyone to easily see. If I notice a modeler lives near me, I'm more likely to reach out and invite them to join us for a club meeting or at least start a conversation. I'm active on Cool Mini and that forum automatically displays your location (assuming you've entered it in your profile) under your screen name. That would be nice if we could do the same here. I know it can be found in people's profile, but who goes around clicking every members profile just to see if they live near them.

Not sure it can be easily changed, so I'm updating my signature to display where I'm from. That way if someone is nearby at least they can reach out to me.

Keith, I agree with you, the easy way round it meeting fellow members at shows, is to have some nominated Traders to have some PF badges at shows. We could purchase them for a small charge, write your name on it and take it with you when you attend other shows,(or not, if you wish). AT LEAST THEN, when I go to a show, I'll know who I'm talking to. Ray Stout,(my real name)
