Hello people is there someone that could help in knight hospitaler colors?
i know that they had black robes with white crosses and later red robes with white crosses.
could someone define when the change took place please?
The Osprey book on the subject says 1259. Only the knights moved to red and the lower ranks stayed black. Eventually they all wore red. I'm not sure when that happened.
As I understand it, the different colours and heraldry was to do with the Order to which the knights belonged and their nationality, rather than all of them wearing the same. Try looking on Google Images for Knights Templar/Hospitaler. That should give you some ideas.
Hi Akkilas78.
1248 the cape is not allowed. Black robe with white cross.
1259, red robes with white cross for knights at battle. Black robes for sargeants at battle.
1278 red robes for both.
Remember, eight-pointed cross
